Difference b/t Newton, Pryor? Accountability...

I was talking about bball.

I am the Highlander of beer drinking.

I have played hoops exactly one time in the last 2 years. The hardwood took a toll on my back and knees so I can't play as much as I would like or else I am essentially bed ridden for a couple of days.

I didn't say a player with no moral compass - there's a distinction there. We all made mistakes in college, right? I consider myself lucky to be alive after some of my more adventurous exploits up at ASU, but the difference b/t us and someone like Cam is the fact that your entire past is picked through with a fine-toothed comb b/c people get paid to find blemishes in your character/past. That has to be tough to deal with for these guys....

We all make mistakes and I made more than my share in college. I was there when the whole streaking thing was alive and well. Nuff said about that, LOL.

The difference to me is that football players like Pryor aren't like you and I. They know they will be looked at with a magnifying glass. They know if they screw up and get caught, the consequences will be severe and they have a lot more to lose. So when they blatantly abuse the rules not once or twice but systematically, get caught and drag down the whole program only to bolt at the first opportunity, it is not close to the stupid things you or I did in college. For him great things are given and great things are expected. He knew that going in and still did everything he did. And he did them for his whole career in college. Dismissing his behavior as simply what college kids do is simplistic at best. Playing quarterback for Ohio State in front of a 100 thousand fans and millions on TV each game puts you on a much higher plane of accountability than going to ASU or where I went at ECU. That kind of dismissive behavior as "boys will be boys" is partly why cheating is so rampant.

The only problem I have is that people in the media have never met a guy or spent any time with them but feel like they are in a position to speak to his character.

This bothered me a lot in regards to how Cam was portrayed.

The problem is that the people who apparently do know him don't have great things to say about him. Cam on the other hand had a number of very loyal supporters as well as a number of distractors. Maybe it is me but where are all the supporters of Pryor??

Why does everyone keep making this comparison? I honestly think Clausen and Pryor have more in common than with Newton. Pryor like Clausen was a phenom out of high school, good college career (not great), and will probably fizzle in the NFL.

Newton has two national titles under his belt.

And just like newton and clausen, pryor should be given the change to prove they do or do not belong in the NFL. I don't think pryor is god's gift to the quarterback position but, i also don't think he is as bad as alot of us think.

Pryor is one of the most physically gifted young men to play the QB position in major college football. But, he had three years learning from some of the best college coaches in the country, playing on one of the most talented teams in the country. He has been given every oppurtunity (except for the senior season he just pissed away) to prove he has what it takes to be an NFL QB.

Many players have done much more with much, much less and still flamed out in the NFL. If he truely aspires to be a starter in the NFL, he needs to start practicing his routes because he is obviously lacking something between the ears needed to be a QB. Between God and the Buckeyes, he was given everything else a QB could ask for.

He should be given a chance and most likely some team will - just not the Carolina Panthers. I don't know Pryor personally, but the rumor on him is he is a big time diva. I see him as a project at the WR or kick return position.
