Talk of a new CBA picking up steam

The 2011 cap hit would be around 73 million as of right now, I also think it will take more then 30 million to keep Williams, Kalil, Johnson, Davis and Anderson.

Plus you have Newton's Contract which will be something along the lines of a 6 year deal worth 70-80 million with 40-50 million guaranteed. Regardless of what the new CBA has in it, it doesn't apply to the previous draft...so he'll get a full out rookie contract under the old system... The above numbers are from Bradford's deal... I figure Newton's would be around the same area.

No he won't, that rookie cap will most likely be implemented when football starts like everything else. And with JR at the helm of the CBA talks it's almost certain it would be in place this year.

Not necessarily true concerning you assumption on the rookie contracts.

No rookie contracts have been negotiated or signed. The CBA very well could have language that begins a new rookie pay scale effective now...which could cover this year's draft.

Over the weekend, Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reported via Twitter the existence of an expectation that a framework for a labor deal could come in two weeks.

Now, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that sources on both sides of the dispute said Tuesday that a deal could be struck in the next two to three weeks.

the rumors sound nice, especially in the cbssports.com article linked by Mother Grabber, but whatever. I had read somewhere that it was theoretically possible for the league to lift the lockout before there were signatures on paper, out of good faith. that would be a nice step, and probably the most likely way to end the lockout before mid/late July. the kind of legal problem-solving that would officially result in a new CBA can't really be hurried, and may take several weeks beyond the "deal in principle" benchmark.

When this happens.

It shall be epic.
