One phenomenal year where he was under coach Chudz (Chudz ties!). Then some good to average years. He's not Injury prone and has played all his games since 06-07. He doesn't fumble often. He did have that one year he dropped balls thrown at him a lot. But he's gotten better since then. Yes he had the off field issues, DWI. But I don't think that would be a problem with the new Regime. He's not that old, only 28. He probably has 5-6 years left in him, maybe more. With Smitty on the other side, the defense would have to respect Edwards and not double team smith. Then the Emergence and development of LaFell and Gettis. Add the Tight End Element, Shockey, Barnidge, Rosario (if he's resigned). I see a potent offense. We already have the running game. As far as how much it would cost to get his services, that right there would be the million dollar question. Literally. How many millions would it take for him to come to Carolina? How many teams would be in a bidding war for him if any? With Santonio Holmes, James Jones, Sidney Rice, Plaxico Burress, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens out there in free agency. I don't know if other teams will look at other wide outs before taking a look at Edwards. Some teams might be turned off by his off field issues? That could help the cause to bring him here since that's not a problem with this regime, See Brandon Hogan. In the end if we sign him to a big contract for 5-6 years, I'd be ecstatic. I think he's a top notch guy. That's my .02 on it.

Pass.

Edwards is too inconsistent and has too many off the field issues. Plus when he was in Cleveland all he ever wanted was to be with a big market team, so I don't see him leaving New York to come to Carolina.

Dallas, Philly or New England? Yeah.

Carolina? Doubt it.

The best wide receiver for the Panthers is already here, Steve Smith. If he wants out, then we definitely need a starter and Edwards can be that. Other free agents include Rice, Jackson, Holmes, Floyd, and the other Steve Smith. I don't know whether we could get one of them. I like the idea of trading Steve Smith for Vincent Jackson unless Jackson would be disgruntled (we don't need more of that).

If we lose Smitty we have to upgrade the position with at least 1 starter. I like the idea of bringing in a guy and trying to keep Smitty. Unless Guy or Wright can come on and compete for playing time, we can't count of what we have. We have to look outside. At long as we find a proven vet, I will be fine. We just need to keep up what we started when we signed Shockey and then drafted Newton by fixing the offense by upgrading and adding to the wide receiver corps as well as signing Williams and Kalil to new contracts.

I am satisified with Smith, LaFell and Gettis.

I don't think and overpriced guy really needs to come here.

I think it will just hinder the progress of one of our young recievers.

I don't feel like bringing in Dyson and Proehl hurt Smiths development. And Proehl made some huge plays for this team. Depth isn't a bad thing.

I just think that more than three is too much.

Yes depth is great, but someone will be seeing a lot of pine time.

I just would like to see LaFell and Gettis really stand out.

I just fear that it would be hard to do behind Edwards of Holmes etc..

More than fair, but I would be scared that we are walking into next year putting too much pressure on the development of two young receivers (ala Colbert and Carter). I would rather overspend at the position and deal with a overpaid player than go into a season where we don't surround a possible franchise quarterback with enough talent to succeed. If the young guys have talent, they will play and contribute.
