Just put down my dog this morning

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the support and well wishes. My girlfriend and I actually have a dog together, a half cairn half westie mix. my dog that just died was a full westie. Moose, our half cairn hybrid, isn't the most emotionally connected dog, doesn't like to be touched all that much, but is still very sweet in his own way. last night I was crying and telling my girlfriend about how when I was a kid and I was sad, Sugar, my dog that just died, use to hop up on my lap and lick my tears away. When i stopped crying, she would roll over on her back and expect a belly rub in return for her services of cheering me up. As I was telling my GF this, moose stood up on his hind legs and started to paw at me. I bent down to see him and ask what he wanted, and he started to lick my tears away like Sugar use to do. then he rolled over on his back and let me rub his belly, just like Sugar use to do too.

I'm not a spiritual or religious guy in the slightest, but I can't tell you how much that moment meant to me. it was kind of like Sugar told Moose to take care of me like she use to one last time. It helped me out a lot.

I had a cat who dies at age 14. She had been my only pet for many years of her life. I had another cat when she died...it seemed that hours after her death....the other cat took on her personality. It was amazing...just like your dog. It is as if the animal's spirit hangs around.

Damn that sucks man. Mine died a couple years ago (he was 13) and i still haven't or think i ever will replace him. I was pretty upset, and it pissed me off off when people would say "its just a dog" mine died out of nowhere. and i cant imagine having to put one down. sorry for your loss man.

funny how somedays I wish I had no pets and then most days, I couldn't imagine not having them!! They certainly become a part of the family.

It's the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give

And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live
