Super 8

I'm pretty excited to see it. I really like JJ and consider most of what he does to be quite entertaining, though rarely groundbreaking.

If you're going to disclose your two favorite movies as movies most people think are average, you should expect them to take your opinion less seriously. I enjoyed both Zodiac and Cloverfield, but to say they even approach the top 25 or even top 50 movies ever made is a bit irresponsible. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but perhaps you should view a few more movies.

You say everyone is entitled to their own opinion and then you call it irresponsible for me to list my two favorite movies? I've viewed enough movies in life to make an opinion and these two are my favorites. If you don't like it fine, but don't call it irresponsible for me to make an opinion that you may not agree with.

Saw it tonight. It was ok. JJ has become the next Spielberg: big on flash and style, light on plot depth and full of holes.

Plot depth. You realize this is the same guy responsible for Lost and Fringe. Clearly wasn't responsible for all of Lost, but he started it.

And what holes were in Super 8?

from the previews it looks like Goonies, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Cloverfield were thrown into a blender and mixed up, poured into a glass, and presented as a brand new idea...

I'll wait for the DVD... and if Zodiac and Cloverfield are your top two movies, you are severely sheltered...

Sheltered? lol

This thread has gotten ridiculous. Basically impossible to post an opinion on a message board without getting ridiculed.

One thing I'd like to know is why they were moving the thing - with all the other stuff - on a train in the first place. A badly secured train, running at high speed at night, with lots of explosive stuff on it, no less.

The main resolution was a bit pat as well but the scenes leading up to it were insanely great.

Meh... if I was ridiculing you, you'd know it...

I was just simply questioning your tastes in movies in a less tactful way... ;)

Sorry, I meant to say it feels a bit irresponsible to most. If that's your opinion then that is certainly fine. It is just like someone saying Katy Perry is the best pop artist of all time. Just doesn't seem to fit.

Anyways, I like all the movies we have discussed. Sorry for being part of the derailment.

I want to know that ... and why the alien was grabbing all those people. Other questions remain, too ....

But, all in all, I liked it.
