Jordan Gross interview

Recommended Posts

Can you imagine the 3-5 WR set?

Especially if we keep Smitty here. If Gettis and LaFell can continue to grow and Pilares can live up to his hype as a slot-type in the Wes Welker mold, with Shockey or Rosario (who may have the best hands on the team) we will have a group of receivers that defenses will have to respect.

And most importantly, this effort will be aided greatly by getting back to running the football hard with DeAngelo and Stewart

I just finished listening to the radio interview... very exciting.

Didnt know the guys would think of Plaxico Burress that way. If the Panthers sign Plaxico... I can definitely see Steve Smith resigning... thats a serious Receiver tandem... with young depth Gettis, Lafell, Pilares... And Shockey and Dante Rosario at TE. And CAM at the Helm ??? Thats the kind of balance that Carolina needs to make a playoff run.

Loved hearing that Newton, Fua and Pilares did well and impressed. I wonder if Hogan, McClain and the other rookies made it.

I'm also curious about McClain, Ziemba, and Washington. IDK if Hogan can work out until August due to his knee injury.

Jordan Gross On Cam Newton and the QB:

"you know I had him over the house last monday (or wednesday), and I told him that I had a lot of preconceived notions about you. I said, You just assume that if a guy is the #1 pick, wins the heisman, has advertisements and endorsement deals... that he's gonna have a sense of arrogance to him. I told him this to his face, because thats kinda what I thought. I wasnt sure about the draft pick. I liked it because of the potential, but I didnt know what kind of guy we were getting. He's really won me over. That qb position has been for the last few years ....stammers... (Jay: Less than desirable) Yeah, Im a Matt Moore fan. I thought he had talent there.... I think Jimmy did ok last year...(Jay Weezie: no you didnt) but definitely we have room to work. Im hopeful that Cam can come in here and do that. He's showed up in great shape... which says alot because you cant buy getting in shape. You can only do that by working. He's throwing balls... anything we asked him to do, he's done it. We had him out there flipping tires and hitting tires with sledge hammers... tough stuff that a primadonna wouldnt wanna do. He came in a kept his mouth quiet and had fun with the guys and worked hard with the guys. He just did everything you would want him to do... and I dont think thats something you can groom or act out. I even had him out on Lake Wiley on the boat, and pulled him behind the boat with the O-line guys, so he's really fitting in well."

I wish I could remember the guys who said something about Cam being the next Jamarcus Russell so I could slap them with the STUPID STICK!

i love that he's building that relationship with the oline. i'm guessing ziemba is out there with them as well. he's going to need these guys working hard to protect him. the better the relationship he has with them, the better they will be blocking for him.

Most of the time we will run 22 personnel with 2 running backs and two tightends. That means you can only have 1 wideout. If we run many 3 receiver or four receiver sets, the tight ends and running backs will be catching the ball. Or we will going 12 personnel with a single back and 2 tight ends and 2 wideouts. If they put Newton back there by himself, it will be a 2 minute drill. We won't be counting on his arm to make many plays.

I am glad Cam is exceeding my expectations but we won't be going wide open especially at first. We will running a more conservative offense than many think this year. We will be running the ball alot since that part of the offense will be further along than the passing game. That will be even more the case the longer the lockout lasts.
