Big O: "Jordan is not the greatest ever"

Im gonna play devils advocate. Michael Jordan entered the NBA in 1984. In the middle of what many call the "golden era" of basketball. Now tell me how many titles Jordan won in the 80s? Did he ever beat the Lakers that decade? Or the Celtics? Bad Boy Pistons? Nope. Jordan waited his turn just like everybody before and after him despite how much we try to revise that fact. He had no rivals because guys like Bird, Magic, & Isiah who regularly beat him and his teams either retired or fell off at the beginning of the 90s. When those guys were in their primes, how did Jordan fare?

Guys like Big O, Kareem, Wilt, Russell, etc influenced J and have resumes just as good if not better. Although I see Jordan as the GOAT, I wont argue with others who proclaim those other guys better.

Oh come off it, Nestle Snipes.

Truth is the truth. Jordan didnt win any titles in the "golden era" but was a product of it and dominated the 90s because of it. Much in the same way Shaq/Kobe were a product of the 90s (but didnt win in that decade) and dominated the 00's because of it.

Fair argument but I disagree with it. Even though he didn't win the championship he was still dominating the NBA in his early years.

In his first year he put in 28ppg on 51% shooting. He broke his foot in his second season but was able to return for the playoffs. Against those Celtics who were winning championships he dropped 63 points (Bulls are swept in the series, but MJ shows he belongs on the big stage. 63 is 55 more than 8).

He follows up those playoff heroics by scoring 3,000 points the next season (37 ppg 48% shooting). First person to do so since Wilt. It doesn't stop there though. He also becomes the first player ever to record 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. Again MJ is swept by the Celtics.

By the fourth year he is obviously the best player in the NBA. He wins the MVP and the defensive player of the year awards (1.6 blocks and over 3 steals, are you kidding me? Let's see Lebron or Kobe match that). MJ losses to the Pistons that season and the next two seasons as well

So, yeah, it took him six seasons to win an NBA Championship. He didn't have much help early in his career. I agree LeBron hasn't had much help in his career either though but I don't find the NBA as competitive as it was then. MJ's bulls beat the Pistons and they beat the Lakers. They went through these teams with relative ease. They played the Pistons in the Conference Finals and the Lakers in the Finals (so both were still competitive teams).

I think championships are overrated. It's about how you perform in the games that matter. MJ performed extremely well and the championships were a result of that. Anyone can win a championship just by being on the right team. MJ wasn't scoring 8 points and watching the Scottie Pippen show.

I also think MJ brought a lot of fans to basketball. The guy did amazing things and for the most part, was a good guy off the court, and someone your kids could look up too. Besides his stats and all that, which make him the GOAT imo, there's all these other things that have to be factored in.

Jordan revolutionized the game in almost every phase, like no other player ever has has.

That's why he's the GOAT.

Stat wise, Ring wise, etc. Of course he's not the GOAT , but in an overall view of the game. He pretty much is, and it's no contest.

Ive never called LeBron the GOAT or said he's better than Jordan ever. But he is the best player in this era of the NBA and the biggest athlete in American sports right now.

I think Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Kobe and maybe ever Dale Jr, might have something to say about LBJ being the biggest athlete in American sports.

Esp Tiger and Phil, they both make way more money and are more well known throughout the world than LBJ.

Hell, MJ is still the most known sports figure and its been over a decade since he last retired.
