Peppers/Cassel Trade Talks being whispered.

So was I, the price is way to high....

The funny thing about all these Cassel rumors is what do the Pat's have as a backup plan if Brady isn't ready. Matt Gutierrez, and Kevin O'Connel are on the roster, or do they hunt down a FA themselves.

I may be wrong, but I doubt they're actually shopping Cassel right now, making all these rumors BS.

They could feel free to bring Damon Huard back into the fold. O'Connell is YEARS away..he's raw. Gutz was only brought back when Brady got hurt.

I don't see them wanting to decide on any of those guys. I guess I'm just crazy because everyone else thinks Cassel is on the move. I think they tagged him as insurance and won't look to move him until sometime this summer at the earliest.

If you are going to shop Cassel, THIS is the year to do it.

You could very well be right. They have until July 15 I believe to negotiate a LT deal. I think most people are leaning toward Cassel's being available for trade because of the huge cap commitment (even if it is only for a few months it could impact their ability to sign FAs) to QBs with Brady and him. If he does need to stay the whole year or more, I would think they will try to negotiate a LT deal to alleviate the hit because I can't see them carrying 28 mil in QBs alone all year. Though they could also redo Brady's deal.

I guess that's the thing, the franchise tag isn't designed to protect a players trade value, but suddenly everyone assumes that's what it's being used for in both the Cat's and Pat's situation.

In truth neither team has much choice for different reasons. The Panthers can't replace Peppers without significant compensation, the Patriots need Cassel as insurance in case Brady doesn't come back to start the season.

The major difference is the Panthers would rather sign Julius long term right now if they could. The Pat's are only using Cassel as a place holder, they have no desire at this point to extend him as a starter.

I know everyone is convinced NE is playing a game, and they may very well be, but IMO they can't really afford to let Cassel walk until they know Brady is OK.

I think part of the speculation also arises because both players got the NON exclusive tag which is usually considered the more "trade friendly" one.

Publicly, Pep's camp has balked at his staying while Cassel has been blowin' out the sunshine that he would love to stay. That could affect the trade market as well.

Yeah I thought about that, originally I thought the Panthers would spank Pep by exclusively tagging him, but when you think it that makes no since. Pretty much no one is worth two first rounders, but if someone bites and you don't want to match so be it. Non exclusive makes the player chase the bones and if they bring you a diamond deal you do it.

My dad was a car salesman and one thing he taught me is anything is for sale for a price, even if you didn't intend to sale it.
