Peppers/Cassel Trade Talks being whispered.

What amazes me is that people who complain about Jake targeting Smith too much then turn around and tout Matt Cassel

Cassel targeted Wes Welker at a higher rate than Jake targeted Smith, and that was with his second option being Randy Moss :sosp:

One of the reasons for that disparity is that Cassel isn't great at throwing deep passes. Now ask yourself, what is one of the favorite plays in the Panther offense?

(if you said the deep pass, you're correct)

Bottom line: Cassel isn't the right fit for this offense, and he sure as hell isn't worth Julius Peppers, even with a first rounder thrown in :nonod:

As I've said before, the Patriots are going to sucker someone into taking Scott Mitchell II, but Lord knows I don't want it to be us.

Duh, because welker was open.

Yep. He was never covered at all

(Welker tended to run the shorter routes)

Steve Smith would tell you he's always open. Delhomme has the trust to throw to him even if he looks covered. David Carr didn't. Hence, why Carr rarely threw to Smitty.

People seem to forget that Jake doesn't only throw deep balls to Steve Smith, he threw a lot of flat routes to him as well... Not an endorsement, just reality...

God I hate defending Jake...

we have guys like Rosario and Jarret. Will they ever be able to develope on a Delhomme led team. I think both guys have awesome potential, but it doesnt look good for them in Carolina at the moment.

I can understand Jarrett, I get that, I think he's gonna be good. But Rosario, Jake is holding back Rosario? Get a life! Jarrett may end up all-world, but Rosario is never gonna get there I don't care who's throwing to him...

Like I said before, Wes Welker was his security blanket. Not that I blame him anymore than I blame Delhomme for going to Smitty when he really needs a play, but we don't have a Wes Welker or much of a short passing game for that matter. The Panthers offense is based on running the ball to set up play action passes...that hasn't changed since Henning left.

Here's a question for everybody though...how many people here believe that Fox and Davidson want a QB to play from the shotgun 70% of the time and throw a bunch of short passes, when they have one of the best, if not the best, RB tandem in the league?

While we're at it...how many people here believe that Cassel would have put up the same kind of numbers if he would have had to start for the Raiders or the 05 Cardinals like McCown did?

I hear you on the shotgun stuff. Our RBs are awesome. Just think though, how good we be if we had a consistant QB that could move in the pocket. Very explosive offense is what we would have. Not even saying I want Cassel, I think Byron L would be a better fit for our team.

Well, I just believe that if Delhomme can't his confidence back, or if it turns out that he just can't play the way he used to ( and that's still a pretty big if, IMO), then McCown could do the job. From what I've seen, he's better than his brother, who the Bucs just re-signed, instead of sticking with Garcia.

I still haven't given up on Matt Moore either. Having a couple of tough pre season games behind back up O-linemen, doesn't mean a guy is finished...not by a long shot. He showed me as a rookie, that he is pretty poised when the real bullets are flying.
