When Fox returns to Carolina...

Recommended Posts

If you take out this season since it was completely JRs doing and wishes, he's 71-57. There are a lot of things to look at with W/L.

Everyone is praising Rivera already because he acts like Mike Singletary but that doesn't always get results.

I likely won't do anything because I'll be at home in my man room watching the games so I'll crack open another beer, put in another dip, and hope for the best.

Fox is a better coach than Carolina gives him credit for.

in what way? Rivera seems much more relaxed and well thought out. Singletary has always been known as more upbeat/major motivator.

The halftime adjustments was the one thing that really bothered me about Fox but a lot of that goes to personnel and coordinators.

The man had a simple plan to win. Run the ball and play defense. With a good team it works, with a gutted team it doesn't.

it only worked 3 out of 9 seasons, gutted team or not. and I focus most of that onto his lack of adapting, whether half-time adjustments or philosophy. the general premise of run and stop the run is great, still rings true.. but there's a lot more to football than that. he never seemed willing to adapt to today's NFL.

If Fox would've put a little effort in to coaching last season instead of acting like a whiny little bitch that didn't get what he wanted for Christmas then he would get a semi-warm welcome from me (he would still be the enemy, so no way he would get a standing O)... but since he didn't, then he gets booed.

Give Foxy a decent QB and I would believe he would be successful. But I guess I could say that about almost any coach. So that is a wash.

Singletary did not win. So it is not a given that Rivera will be a success. I am hopefull though, that the staff Rivera has assembled will be the difference between being successful, and continuing to be less so.

I do believe those are my thoughts, and GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will probably give him a couple claps and a cheer. He did a fine job. It was disappointing more than a few times, but he still is a major part of the best moments in franchise history. For the people saying 3 winning seasons out of 9 blows, I personally don't count the first one and the last one. Injuries accounted for 04 and 07. I would say that 06 and 09 were the only seasons where he underperformed as a coach.

I just picture both of them standing in the doorway in the middle of the night in the pitch black when you are trying to sneak back into your room after being out with your friends.

I picture them both being very stern and no nonsense but you are right, Rivera seems like he is more level headed than Singletary right now, but losing can bring out some demons.

I meant to get across that he's so different from Fox that we automatically assume it's a good thing even before he does anything for this franchise, but this isn't the only situation this off season where this is happening so I'm getting used to it.

Like I said, Fox was under appreciated here but that's what goes along with being the head coach.

I think you're right, a lot of people are reading into Rivera as you mention, he is different from Fox.. I see qualities that I hope bring success, like a gameplan, well thought out, and for some reason I feel he has a higher IQ.. he's certainly has had more success as a DC than Fox ever had, as well as with 2 different types of defenses. I think that shows he can analyse and adapt. we'll see though. He hasn't proven anything yet.

although one similarity is neither are very boisterous...

I think he can make these defense scary good but you know me, gotta present the cautious, "hating" side of the argument.

Ummm I think it's been more the bromance with Matt Moore as of late, but what ev.

As of late?

I've had a bromance with Moore for a long time. I don't usually go with the majority so occasionally the majority shares the opinion I do (end of 2009 and middle end 2010 w/ Jimmy) and I'm not hated as much but usually I'm in the minority and hated on for anything.

When Moore played well, I wasn't hated for thinking he was our best QB. When Moore had a bad stretch, everything I wrote was disregarded because I still thought Moore was our best QB.

Oh well. One day I'll get the high school cheerleader mentality and try and fit in instead of using logic and reason to form my opinions.

I usually do it in an assholish way though so people take offense. I can't help myself when they get so giddy like 10 year olds though.

I am a flawed human being.

it does help with the boredom around these parts... would be lying if I didn't do the same.
