Travelle Wharton

He's been starting for us for quite some time now and I honestly still have no damn idea how talented or productive he truly is. I will admit I'm not one who really understands how good linemen are beyond the statbook.

My main question: How actually good is he? It seems for the last 4 years everyone has been convinced we have a great o-line and then 1 or two injuries happen and our lack of depth then position changes kill us.

What I'm trying to say is that Wharton is neglected whether its about being a solid player or one lacking talent. So, I open this up to see what people actually think of him and if we can improve at his spot with a better talent down the road...not immediately this year.

I mean, we've gone on for a while now about how supposedly great our o-line is when they're healthy; but I'm somewhat cautious about calling them great when really double-trouble's monster year a while back was their only real showing of "greatness" imho.

Wharton talk: go

Our O line got a bit overrated by the 2008 season.

Our run game got a bit overrated by the 2008 season.

That said, we do have a pretty good line in run O, and an OK line in pass O.

The running game would be great if we had a passing attack, or an o coordinator with some balls/imagination.

While not a great player, Wharton has been one of our more consistent and solid starters on the OL. He and Gross have formed quite a tandem on the left side for the past few years. I think he's got a few years left; however we definitely can improve at the LG spot, as Wharton has been bothered by nagging injuries and he has been with us awhile. I was hoping Duke Robinson would be the heir apparent to the LG spot, but we may it be open competition between him, Bernardeau and Ziemba.

Wharton is a dang good G. He also is diverse enough that he can slide out and do what he did in 2009 at the T spot.

Chemistry among the line and QB play are two huge factors that I think people don't focus enough on. If you shuffle the line too much they aren't gonna look good b/c injury and QB imo is one of the bigggest factors in how a OL looks in pass protection. Bad QB play will make any OL look like garbage.
