Travelle Wharton

While not a great player, Wharton has been one of our more consistent and solid starters on the OL. He and Gross have formed quite a tandem on the left side for the past few years. I think he's got a few years left; however we definitely can improve at the LG spot, as Wharton has been bothered by nagging injuries and he has been with us awhile. I was hoping Duke Robinson would be the heir apparent to the LG spot, but we may it be open competition between him, Bernardeau and Ziemba.

While I agree with you it is always good to look for an upgrade. Upgrading over Wharton would be tough..

Duke Robinson you gotta be kidding me. The boy is the Offensive Line version of D. Jarrett. He is lazy and doesn't want to work. He came into training camp last season FAT and out of shape. He'll be lucky if he sticks to the team.

He is actually over-rated on here, but he is a serviceable guard at worst. Definitely a better pass blocker than he is run blocker, where he can at times struggle. He is one of the those linemen who has been fortunate enough to have a couple of highlight plays picked up by the cameras and as such people look to those as a measure of his ability.

He doesn't come close to Gross' importance on the team, but he aint bad.

Wharton is solid and his versatility makes him worth a $5 million + contract. He has (along with Gross) stepped up as a leader. Having said that, He is a good LG. LGs are not hard to find. With Ziemba (still pumped about the pick), maybe we have LT depth now. I never liked moving TW to LT because it makes us weaker at 2 positions and not just one. TW will become a casualty unless he reworks his deal soon.

With Gross, Kalil, Wharton, and Otah making great money, something will have to give very soon.

Wharton should stay this season and they will try to extend him in 2012. If not, we can find a LG to work for 1/5 of what Wharton is charging. If he is part of the core, however, I could be very wrong.

I have a Wharton jersey, so I hope he sticks around for a while. lol I am a Gamecock fan and loved him as a Gamecock and I love him as a Panther. He is one of the most consistent guys on our OL. He is not great but when healthy he is consistent.
