Did you let your young children watch TV?

I dont consider what im doing "sheltering", she would obviously not grasp anything perverse or questionable at this age.

I think staring at a mechanical box for hours on end does something to a person...at any age, and especially for a growing mind.

My brothers daughter sat in front of every brainiac baby dvd ever made. She didnt talk for a long damn time. They thought she had a problem...she wont shut the fug up now at 6.

Im not judging anyone, its just something we do. We are also weird cause our daughter is on an alternate vaccine schedule. She didnt get so many shots at once, like they do those first two rounds.

My son, who is 22 months old, loves to watch Tarzan and Finding Nemo. He only watches them, for the most part, when we are driving around though. He will watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the morning while drinking his milk, and he watches Blue's Clues or Wonderpets after his bath before going to bed.

My wife and I don't really like the idea of him watching TV at all, but we tend to think he needs some time to just chill and veg out too. He is a little toddler who goes 100 miles an hour all day. What harm is about an hour of TV a day going to do? None that we can see.

We make sure to sit with him when he is watching it though. More times than not, we talk to him about what is on the screen. We use it as a learning experience, in addition to just entertainment. He seems to like that.

He also loves books, puzzles, blocks and Play Doh. He can sit at a little craft table and play with one color of Play Doh for an hour and be completely happy. If he had his drothers though, he would be outside all the time. Unfortunately for him, the constant 20-40 mile per hour winds in Colorado Springs don't bode well for a 22 month old playing outside.

I would say our method is working pretty well with him. He is highly social. He is also highly active, as my wife takes him to a gym where they teach all kinds of different skills once a week. Plus, he is already saying 5-7 word sentences and questions. Now, if we could just break him of that stinking paci.

As long as you don't let him/her just sit in front of the TV alone all day, you should be fine.
