you shouldn't.

capital has triumphed over labor once again, simply by gaming the legal system.

they've won because they're in better position to weather a federal case.

they've won because it's easier to marshall 31 white millionaires than 1500+ football players.

they've won because the system is gamed in their favor.

fug all our lives.

we're in a country that was founded by rich white men and is run by rich white men. It's not that turrible a situation you just need to accept it.

This isn't about organized labor versus management at all. Football is already a special case as are all major sports leagues. Players are treated better than most any other worker and with a minimum salary of over 300,000 it is hard to feel sorry for the trodden masses. Even practice squad teams get 5000 a week.

Homestly the players never had a leg to stand on to begin with. If we were talking players 30 or 40 years ago then you could have made a case. But honestly players are pampered and treated damn well. Who among us wouldn't trade places if we had the talent to be able to play football at that level.

The whole complaint that players are getting done in and treated unfairly is crap IMO.

Right on Spot...

They are whining and crying about what the Owners do with their money. The special exemptions the professional sports have in place is to be able to keep parity within the league.

The players have more amenities than most companies. As you said minimum salary over a quarter mil. They are hardly being mistreated.

I think it's not logically sound to say "They make over a quarter mil, they aren't being mistreated," because that is only relative to other jobs. Just because they make more than the average person, that says nothing about the money that make in relation to their own management, in which case, I think Fiz is actually quite right.

In what might be HUGE news, Daniel Kaplan is reporting that due to the fact that the federal court is engaged in confidential settlement talks with both sides, next week's federal mediation has been cancelled.

This could be HUGE... it is possible that major progress has been made if settlement talks are still going on, which it sounds like they are based on the mediation cancellation.

Maybe we'll have an end to this soon. God, I hope so.

woooooooooooohoooooo

DaveThePanther2008, I see you have met and agree with Panther55, who is correct that the NFL is a special case, as are all major professional sports leagues. That is, they are monopolies which have been allowed to operate as such without being subject to antitrust laws, because there has always been an uneasy, but mostly effective balance between players (employees, if you will) ownership, and we, the consumers.

OK let me put it this way... THEY AREN'T BEING MISTREATED!!!! PERIOD.

This is about controlling the money. This is like you walking up to your boss saying me and my fellow employees want 50% of the companies profit. When you are over at your desk packing up your things then you will realize what a stupid thing you just did. There isn't a company out there that increases salaries based on company profit. You may see a christmas Bonus but you won't see an increase in salary based on profit.

And since you want to be a smart-ass about it. The average Salary is close to 2 million per season. Hardly scrapping by. As a previous poster noted. If you (as would I) had the talent to play professional football you would drop your trival job and be at training camp the next day.

If this were about Labor then why did the Union decretify? This is about the players determining how the NFL will be run. Brady and Brees don't give a rats ass about the future of the NFL. They only care about themselves and what they can get.

When the players ruin the NFL by eliminating the draft, Free Agency and salary caps (Min and Max) You will have ther perennial powers and the upstarts. You will have 5 or 6 teams with players having 9 figure salaries and most of the others 6 figure.

But what the hell. The players are SSSSSOOOOOO mistreated.
