This thread is amusing. Mostly wealthy players versus wealthy owners and somehow its symbolic of the plight of workers in America?

I hope they play because I like football, and I hope they keep some sort of salary cap because I like a level playing field. Beyond that, I don't give a crap who wins or who loses, and it will have almost no impact on my life, or on labor conditions in the US.

This is an awful way of looking at this.

secondly, has anyone said this is "symbolic of the plight of workers in america" besides you?

uh labor strife anywhere impact labor strife everywhere this is a fairly easy concept to grasp.

You don't see the NFL labor dispute as a microcosm of our country's slow spiral into socialism? lol

I'd be surprised if both the 8th Circuit en banc and the Supreme Court didn't agree to hear the case. Of course, neither will happen until we're past the point of cancelling the season. It's an important case that will affect both other sports leagues and employer/employee relations in general.

so yeah

spoken like T. Boone Pickens himself! (yeah, the guy buying up aquifer land that is planning to suck the water out of it and sell it as a commodity)

greed does not equate to smart

Smart people can be greedy, that is true. But why are you chastising someone for making money? That is what we are supposed to do right? Acquire money, wealth, because the things we want and need cost money.

Just because someone does something to make money you are jealous of the fact, so the obvious solution to that is hate them for it.

Stop being so righteous. If Pickens is planning to do whatever you say he is, then whatever. If there is enough opposition against it would it happen? Probably not. But if there isn't, then who cares if he goes through with a business plan?

Speaking of being jealous...

So you feel like you have to respect someone and not be some sort of "jealous hater" if they are using what some would call questionable means to acquire wealth?

If you give a poo about the plight of organized labor vs. management it's the most depressing thing that could happen.

Yeah, because you can see just by watching how millionaire football players lead their everyday lives that they really, really, really care and empathize with the plight of the working man.

The fact that you can somehow watch millionaires fighting multi-millionaires over money and boil it down to fundamental fight over "labor" is frickin' hilarious, dude.

I do feel some sympathy for the role player types. Even though they still make a significant amount of money, they only make it for a few years, and they really put their bodies on the line.

But for anyone with three years or more, the minimum is 500,000 a year. Live frugally, invest wisely, and you could live a pretty good life. I have trouble feeling any sympathy for them at all.

It's ok. Dave has called me a 'fugging racist pig' in big bright red text. Fun time.

I dare you to be more wrong. I dare you.

When exactly did the players put the game on hold so that they could demand 50% of the profits from the NFL? The current deal expired and the owners refused to extend, rather they wanted to give the players an 18% cut in salary, increase the schedule to 18 games, implement a rookie salary scale, and not increase health benefits.

Also, employees salaries regularly increase with a company increasing success. That's why the players average salaries are where they are. Otherwise they'd still be making peanuts and instead of just 4 yachts apiece, the owners would have 16 each.

So you're saying the players only want out of this what's best for their own pockets, and you assume it's ANY different for the owners? That is the absolute dumbest assumption I've read of yours.

Are there owners that care about the longevity of the game? Sure. Are there players that do as well? Sure. Are there more on both sides that care about the bank accounts, stocks, investments and property? Quite possibly.

You're so quick to jump on the employee/employer narrative because it's makes things so simple for you.

I wish I had as narrow a perspective as you. This whole debacle would be a lot easier to understand.

PLayerz BAAAAAAAD, OWnerz GOOOOOOOOOOOOD

DEmawriz SMWIth MEGGGGGAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

Big Boy I am a hellava lot closer to the truth that your warped opinion is.

The players put the MF games on hold they day the walked out of the March 11 session. Which was their plan all along. If the players were bargaining is such great faith. List me ONE, just one counteroffer. JUST ONE!!!! Come on, get online, shouldn't take you too long being your the genius of NFL Labor dispute. You'll be looking a long time because there isn't one. The Lockout was a countermove the the Sham of a Decertification.

The Players got a great deal on the 2006 CBA and they know it. It is why they want the lockout lifted so they can keep the 2010 rules in place while they sucked as much of of the NFL as they could. The owners opted out of the 2006 CBA because it was a bad deal.

It doesn't really matter what percentage the players get. IMO they shouldn't dictate what amount the owners pay them. Don't give me this garbage about if they didn't have the football players they wouldn't have a business. If I or anyone else didn't have their employees we wouldn't have a business. But you see there will always be employees that will work for the salaries that the company dicate. Just like the NFL. You could drop the salaries down to 300,000 per player. Know what sooner or later they would ALL COME BACK. We'll never see that happen but players will play.

Narrow perspective.....LOL... It is as simple as this. The players want to control the NFL not the owners. The Players are like a poor car owner. Get a brand new car, never change the oil, never wash it, never maintain it and expect it to last forever. Then try give it to their kids to work with, only to know it is far beyond repair. The players could careless what will happen in the NFL in 2020.

IMO the players should have to pay for the own insurance. They make 1.9 mil a yr (on the average) What's a couple grand a month. They want a retirement plan. Invest in it like every other American does. They play this game because they love it. 75% of the players that come into the NFL have injuries and conditions that they got in college before they signed a contract with the NFL.

The owners do a great service by giving them insurance, veteran benefits and other amenities too many to list.

Bottom line the players got away with a great deal in 2006, you know it, and I know it. If you don't then I might as well be talking to the wall.

Do us and everyone else here a favor. SAY POP!!!! POP is the sound it makes when you get your head out of the ass of the football players you so avidly stand behind.

You flapped your gums for 20 minutes and didn't say a damn thing. Now show us some of that self professed intelligence and tell us all what is really going on.

Enlighten us with your wisdom oh mighty Rhys... We shall pay homage and lay Bogangles Chicken at your feet.

    • Hornets actually have good young talent, but they just can't play good team ball.   Lee doesn't look like a good hire at HC so far.
    • Apparently it did no good. Getting spanked by the Wizards…again!
    • I'd be looking at mid to late round QBs every single draft simply because the potential ROI is so high. Hell, even if I have an entrenched starter and backup that wouldn't change the equation. Hit on one and I'd trade my entrenched backup to a desperate team and now I have a quality backup in a rookie contract to protect cap space and a potential asset to trade down the road or hell even develop into a starter if my starter is aging or has a career detailing injury or maybe the young guy simply proves to be better at some point. Once you get the the 4th or 5th round you're basically throwing darts at the board hoping to hit on something at that point. Most of those guys will prove to not be long for the league anyway.  I'm not saying reach on a guy just because he's a QB but if I have similarly rated prospects on the board and we're talking about a FB, a blocking TE, and a  OG with limited upside, well that's a no brainer to me. Roll the dice on the QB.
