Here's why the media has been banned from Panthers practice

Recommended Posts

It's because there are a few high-profile guys, including Cam Newton, that weren't going to attend if the practices had been open. It sucks, but it's pretty simple.

As much as I would like to know how the practices are going, I can't say I blame the Panthers' players for locking out the media. There's just too much potential for distractions with the media bashing Cam has taken in the media, the free agents that are or are not in attendance, and Smith's potential departure. It's a recipe for disaster at a time when the team is trying to do something positive by building camaraderie during this offseason lockout and trying to put a miserable season behind them.

Rant alert

It's a good thing I am not famous, I'd kill some paparazzi. I can barley handle people's nosiness in the street. Privacy is very important to me, I don't need to know a reason, I'd do the exact same poo and the reason is simple PRIVACY. People dismiss privacy now days like it's nothing, poeple asking you for your phone number and address everywhere you go, people asking you "if you've got nothing to hide who cares about a police search". Just stupid, why is privacy not a reason unless you're guilty? It's about privacy and respect and the paparazzi stand for everything opposite of that and they live on it...I'd work at mcdonalds or wiping up poo as a janitor before I'de invade someone's life and sneak up on them taking private pictures of them and their family and children.

I don't think it really matters why the players chose to lock the media out, the media has this attitude like they have the right to be there and all the righteous indignation over being denied access because they serve as the eyes and ears of the fans makes me laugh.

I doubt Cam refused to show up if the media was there, this is the same guy that held a media-only workout pre-draft to show off his skills, why would he get shy all of the sudden? He had more to lose pre-draft by working out in front of the media than he does now.

I take Gross at his word, they didn't want the media there because they wanted to be able to workout without being under the scrutiny of who was there, how this guy or that guy looked, etc... I'm sure they also wanted to do these workouts in private because they are installing some of the new offense and defense and didn't want to be scouted by anybody (which happens all the time). I actually have concerns about how open the Panthers regular practices are and how easy it is for anybody (like me) to wander up and watch them. I'm glad to have the opportunity to do that, but I'm not sure it's the best thing for the team to practice in such an open setting.

Where did this info come from? Cam will be Clowney's charity event in Del Ray this weekend and there will be plenty of media there. So much so that I hope the focus stays on the charity and the kids and it doesn't turn into a media frenzy.

Unless, it's as someone else posted and the players don't want their every mistake broadcast when these practices aren't the same as mini-camps or OTA's.

He had a media-only workout to up his draft stock. Now he's been drafted and I'm pretty sure he's tired of the media bashing him over every little word he says.

Bottom line is players should not have to address the type questions that can be brought up at this type of event.....

If they throw, Clausen, Cam, and Pike should not have to explain who throws when and why. They should have to address questions about an offense they are trying to learn from copied playbooks etc.

Is this another my sister's, boyfriend's, barber's, rabbi who knows an unnamed employee thread...

Cam is sitting right here next to me and I just asked him if this was true......he said, nah bro...the OP is a liar.
