out of a job

...sort of. i bartend a combination of places in greensboro that includes bars in a prominent hotel/conference center and, on weekends, in a major nightclub. and i found out a few hours ago that the club is being shut down immediately.

the timing is horrible because i found out ten minutes later that my wife and I just won the bidding for a house we're trying to buy... great news, but terrible time for a major reduction in income.

basically i'm throwing out a line to see if anybody knows of anything. i'd prefer to bartend if possible. i know a lot of you are based in charlotte - do any of you work in the industry and know of anything? if not, what are some high-volume clubs or profitable bars in the area that you think would be worth commuting from greensboro to work at?

thanks to anyone who answers!

damn, I was about to message you asking about some info.. trying to help someone get a job bartending, but he has some background issues and not sure if that'll be a big deal..

I have a few lines out to some friends who might have some connections, but that would be in Raleigh.

regardless, good luck.

haha yeah i'm the wrong guy for that right now. honestly it may work out for the best - the place sucked, it was a horrible crowd, bunch of losers and assholes... hence my annoyed "how much do you tip your bartender" post on here a while ago. there's options out there that are far, far better.

the problem is finding them.

What about bars in Raleigh?

the money would have to be worth the drive/gas expense (same deal with charlotte.) if i knew i'd be jumping into a place where i'd be making some cake i'd be all over it. so yes. do you know of somewhere?

It's been many years since I lived in GSO, but Fifth Season was always a dump for wannabe disco kings, the 40 and 50 somethings wanting to be 20-something again. And, of course, the hotel convention crowd... none of whom have a clue how to tip.

Blind Tiger, Grey's, Nattie Greene's (spelling?), JP Looney's (the newer one in Oak Ridge is always booming...)

Get out of the High Point Road area- it's dangerous and becoming the armpit of Greensboro. Most of the money crowd is going downtown or up in the Battleground area.

If you really want to try something to supplement, get on with a couple catering companies and work wedding receptions, graduation parties and crap like that on Saturday afternoons between shifts. You just need to get them your name, resume and make sure they call you when they need someone by keeping your face fresh in their minds.

You could easily make bank here in Charlotte on the wknds as long as you don't mind the late hours.

I used to work in a couple restaurants and our bartenders walked out with no less than $250 on weekends.

Move to a nightclub like somewhere downtown, my friends who work there are walking out with anywhere from 3-500 on a Friday night.

The catering/ weddings/ private parties might be the way to go Philly. Never been to a function that had bartenders that werent taken care of... Get in with a good, upscale company and find another gig to supplement when they arent keepin you busy. If you want to make money in foodservice, go where the money is. Dont work at Applebees, go to fine dining where people are going to have 2-3 drinks before their $25 app and $50 entrees...
