Panthers hire police to keep media out of workout

no less opinion based and optimistic than your thoughts are opinion based and pessimistic. it only takes a couple leaders to set the tone and the example. i offer no more unfounded speculation than you have and don't suggest that yours is more reality based. i trust the knowledge and leadership of a few guys on there to handle things well, making sure that they will have what is needed to make certain that it will be beneficial to the whole group. no real reason to believe otherwise unless you are looking for a reason to worry.

i do agree that we might see more injuries, but the conditioning program that these players are undertaking will help cut that down. it's not a perfect substitution for what they get at facilities, but its much better than all of them doing their own thing or nothing at all.

I also trust the "few guys who handle it well." I have stated that before in this thread. Where I dont trust the Beasons and Grosses is on the things they should never have to think about. That is the hordes of staff and personnel that provide the necessary support and training to take these athletes from very good to NFL game day ready.

I dont mean to take from the positive aspects of the camp. There are many things that are good about a collection of players convening to reach a common goal.

My only point in all of this is that they lack 99% of what all NFL teams provide to make each player more than they could be alone. If all it takes is a core of leadership and a core of devoted followers then I would say JR is wasting a TON of money every year on his facilities, staff, and personnel. The NFL forms these athletes into what they are. Sure there are the Ray Lewises and the Beasons but the fact is that 90% of the NFL players revert to bad habits when not kept to strict regiments.

Why do you think the NFL is so damn strict on their players training standards and numbers?? Its not because they are doing it on their own. Its not because they have poor leadership. Its because, just like any human, when given the opportunity to slack off, they will!!!!!!!!!

You mentioned the "conditioning program" that they are undertaking. 1st of all this program is about 2 months behind where it should be. 2nd there is no one there that is qualified to condition this wide array of players, let alone follow up with the necessary stretching, icing, massaging etc... that follows NFL player conditioning. IMO that is a problem for a squad of people I want to excel wearing my favorite colors.

If you and I sat down and planned what a schedule and regiment would be best for our team to follow to be NFL ready, i can assure you it would be more evasive than a general trainer or 2 on Charlotte Christians field on the last damn day in May. I would need more position coaches to at least cover 2 sides of each ball and associated support for player injury and support.

I am sure you have been to training camp. Have you seen how freaking hard core everybody down to the damn waterboys are? They are not just showing off. Hydration to playbook memorization is integral.

Today this "practice" was a good opportunity for leaders to set some tones, film and playbook to be learned indoors, and slow attempted efforts to implement on field. I wish more attended and they hired more people to support them but it is what it is. If I was unemployed with no guarantee of employment for a year or more I probably wouldn't either. I am also not an NFL caliber athlete, or am trying to be.

As for themselves physically I do know for a fact they are far far far from where they should be at this point even though they are completely on their own. (again PM if need be.)

you're thinking about this too much.

what they are doing is short of what they should/would be getting in the most normal of conditions, but it's better than them being on their own working out and studying and it's better than them doing nothing.

honestly, i'm not sure that you arguing for that or against it. thats all i have been saying, though. these aren't a bunch of dummies. these are professional athletes who wish they had what they are accustomed to in training and practice, but are making the best of the situation. it's what they should be doing.

continue discussing it if you want. i won't be. i'm tired.

these aren't a bunch of dummies.

half these guys couldn't bake a biscuit at Bojangles for 8$ an hour. Just because they are NFL athletes they aren't dummies?? Pfffft. A NFL team is usually 40 dummies and 10-15 leaders/thinkers. You give the vast majority of the NFL player way too much academic credit. What was Gambles wonderlic score? lol

Am I am happy the "dummies" are there. Yes and No. On one hand they are doing something. One the other it is quite possibly not what Rivera wants to see when they finally train together. I just dont want people to learn bad habits and get injured. Without appropriate trainers and coaches that is exactly what will happen.

I am glad to see Eugine Robinson out there though. It is the first of many moves that need to be made to help these "practices" become somewhat legitimate.

The cool thing is that by reporting that they're not letting the media in, they're STILL reporting that the Panthers are having workouts. I think its genius! It doesnt ostracize fans... I think it only endears Panther fans. Lets us know that they're serious about this season... and that they dont want any distractions from winning as a team. The media did their job... We know they're working out...

We know Cam Newton was there... and we cannot confirm or deny that Steve Smith was there or not there. What do the fans gain from seeing the Panthers workout anyway? What if the media tried to get footage of how Cam studying the playbook? It would be more distracting that anything.

Keep pounding Panthers.

I know. I just want to see pics of the Panthers in action! I'd love to see some video of Cam dropping a bomb to Gettis... or Jimmy picking his nose. Anything.

you might want to go look at some of the playbooks and schemes some teams run before you say something like it's 40 dummies on the team.

yeah it's not rocket science but, it's pretty indepth stuff.
