Goodell still says fans want 18 games

The pressure is on the players. Ol' Rog is just flexing a bit because he can. Sometimes in negotiations you get everything you want by demanding something you really don't care much about and then taking it off the table to show some compromise. But in the end you got everything you truly wanted.

This is what happens when you place your faith in the courts and a lawyer and things don't go your way.

The commish wants to globalize the game and increase revenues. By adding to the regular season, he is increasing the TV contracts by 16% or so. I hate the 4-game preseason, but I get the players point. I think there is an easy solution. Increase the season 17 games (8 home, 8 away, 1 international, neutral site) and decrease the preseason by 2 games.

RG thinks the league is back in the driver's seat, and he is counting his chips at the table. He is going to force this 18 game thing down throats now because once the CBA is done, he cannot get it for several years.

I have no problem with 18 games, and he is right season tickets holders would rather pay for tickets to real games, not preseason games. Thats all they are doing, not "adding" 2 games, just trading 2 worthless preseason games out for 2 regular season games... that count. Don't think they are making it up, the owners do send out surveys to SEASON ticket holds...:eek:

Its more fans in the seats, buying hotel rooms to concessions. More televised games (advertisement, t.v. deals). Players and owners make more.

Get it for the nth time.....the 18 game season was taken off the table by the owners in the last two proposals.

They realize that this is a deal breaker for the players and as such have moved from their position.

They still believe it is best for the game. However, they know that a deal including it will not get done.

ticket holders would gladly trade 2 regular season games for preseason.. they also would prefer to just reduce the preseason game prices. depends on what point you want to raise.

one thing you can't deny is how injuries will affect us in 18 regular season and 2 preseason games than 16 regular season games and 4 preseason games.

18 games, you play 4 full quarters. plus 2 preseason games will require players to step in for more quarters to gel as a team.

count up the quarters, and you'll see it's not as cut and dry as people would you believe.
