Recommended Posts

So i went burger shopping today and wondered what the best burger would be taking into account calories fat and salt.

Here is what I found out.

1 veggie burger patty vs 1 turkey burger potty vs 1 extra lean ground beef patty (1/4 pound)

Calories:

140 vs 170 vs 140

Fat

7g vs 8g vs 4g

Also sodium was lower in the ground beef

You can't make a turkey burger taste satisfying without putting so much fat into it that it is no longer healthy. I put a roasted veggie puree, Parmesan, worchestershire sauce, and some other stuff. It was good but not very healthy.

A veggie burger from the supermarket defeats the purpose. Just make a marinated mushroom sandwich it would be meaty and satisfying. Use a lot of soy or worchestershire sauce with roasted tomato. Those are very meaty ingredients. They have plenty of the "umami".

Regular burger just do something that's lean and mix in milk soaked bread crumbs or some fat free ricotta. Since your just using it as a tenderizer don't buy the expensive authentic stuff. Walmart brand low fat crap works just as well.

Don't buy pre-made burgers!
