For Matt Moore: Bad News and Good News

I think we have to have some veteran presence in there. Otherwise we're just too young at quarterback.

You could make an argument for Moore as that veteran presence, but what you really want in that role is someone who's done it for way longer than Moore has, and had a higher overall success rate.

Much as I like Moore, I have my doubts that he fits in this year's puzzle.

yeah, the only way for Moore to fit is for Clausen to be gone. I have said for months now Moore is gone b/c Carolina is almsot certain to pointlessly hold onto Clausen for another year. Bad news for both parties involved.

Going to be tough for the Panthers to keep Moore as a backup if he is going to be offered a possible starters contract in free agency. I wouldn't necessarily agree with the article in that he is the best young QB in free agency, but I did believe he wasn't getting enough attention as one of the better free agent QBs (mostly because it is a weak free agent class)

Mandated post by TheRealDeal.

Some dudes were trying to tell me that he'd be in the UFL next year but when it was time to man up, they all chickened out. No one wants to admit that TheRealDeal knows his stuff, it's "cooler" to join the dumb kids and go against him.

I will be here when Moore is gone, I just won't have a favorite Panther QB because none of them are worth liking yet.

as soon as Fox was gone I thought Moore was left without a foundation of support that would give him a roster spot on the Panthers for the next NFL season. I walked that back a little bit and waffled upon hearing Rivera's introductory news conference. These days, in the Newton era, I just don't see a way for him to stay on the team, unless he gets no attention whatsoever in free agency and is willing to fight for a roster spot in training camp. I doubt that is going to happen.

At this point in his career he doesn't fit the profile for a QB on the Panthers' roster. Clausen isn't going anywhere except in a trade, and I think everyone suspects that's not feasible right now due to his low low value after a cruddy rookie season. Newton is the golden boy and the heir apparent. Pike is cheap and a real unknown who could become useful under organized and focused tutelage. He could also be dumped after training camp and never heard from again. The other QB spot is going to have to be for a guy who can run the ship and be a steady presence in the case of any of the other younger QB's not getting it done or being erratic or getting hurt. For all his potential (albeit a mediocre amount), Matt Moore is not that guy. He can't make an argument for consistency, and he doesn't have season after season of production and experience in multiple offensive schemes to hang his hat on. He's had his flashes of success, but it's going to take a team who can see potential in him for him to get another significant chance to show what he can do. That's going to happen somewhere else.

As for where that is, the linked article notwithstanding I don't think you can put him on the top tier of QB free agents when free agency starts up. There is a handful of guys with a lot of games under their belt that most teams will feel a lot more comfortable putting in in the stable to save for a rainy day. I could see him sitting for a season behind a Hasselbeck or Rivers or Cassell and getting some snaps in the case of an injury. He's not going to be signed to be a starter. He's going to have to basically start over again and fight his way up to the top of a depth chart somewhere.

No no Teeray... you're doing it wrong.

See veteran presense is required when a front office doesn't draft your choice for #1 pick over all.

Umm if this is directed at me I haven't advocated any veteran coming in because we drafted Cam. It's his team, he will sink or swim this year.

I've never liked "mentors"

Good try though?
