Scottie Pippen says Lebron may be better than MJ on Mike and Mike

Has Scottie Pippen lost his mind? Or is he spot-on saying that LeBron James of the Miami Heat is already a better player than Michael Jordan?

Pippen favorably compared James to his running mate on six Chicago Bulls championships teams during ESPN2's Mike and Mike in the Morning Friday.

"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to ever play the game. I may go so far as saying LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game," said Pippen, surprising even co-hosts Mike Greenberg and Chris Broussard.

I think Pippen is and was always salty about the love Jordan got, and how he got all the credit for the Bulls championships. I understand he's entitled to his own opinion, but to say he's better than Jordan at this stage in his career is a little silly to me.

LOL

Michael Jordan's reaction

It's an insult to compare anyone to Jordan. No, this isn't me hating LeBron either. I think it's annoying when people compare Kobe to Jordan.

No one will ever be MJ. It's as simple as that. No player will ever impact the sport like MJ did and that alone makes him the GOAT.

Pippen's mad because everyone knows he was overrated. He's a great player but his place is much lower in NBA history than guys like MJ. Also when MJ was playing baseball, Phil Jackson wanted the ball in Toni Kukoc's hands at the end of the game. When Pippen moved on to the Rockets and Trailblazers, his stats progressively got worse and even with the Bulls he wasn't a regular 20ppg scorer. Managed 20ppg or better only 3 seasons (Compare that to Chris Bosh who's already averaged over 20ppg in 6 seasons).

An 18,000 point career scorer in 17 seasons... (compare that to Ray Allen who is already at 22,000+). Pippen was one of the first strong wing players that could play the 2 and the 3. He was always in great shape, played solid defense and also was a force on the fast break. but the guy is not as great as he's made out to be. That's why MJ is the best player ever. He won 6 championships without another top player.

People will always argue this and bring up Pippen, Rodman and Horace Grant. Sorry but none of those guys are Dwyane Wade and none of them are Shaq. MJ did it with less and he was able to because he shot the ball at such a high percentage and was a team player.

High praise from Pip. Never heard him say this about Durant or Kobe. LeBron will end his career as arguably the GOAT if he piles up rings which he will. All that hate from last offseason has made LeBron take his game to an even higher level.

Who cares. It will never be arguable that he is the goat. If he picks up championships he can fight for the #2 spot, but #1 is and ALWAYS will be MJ.

The era in which LeBron/Kobe/anyone today is a joke. MJ played when defenders were actually allowed to defend and you had to actually(gasp!) get fouled to get sent to the line, unlike today where if someone looks at you wrong when driving you get sent to the line.

Back then you could body slam someone coming through the paint without getting a flagrant or technical and you could hand check. Defenders are at such a disadvantage due to the removal of hand checking. This might not have a huge difference in LeBron's game, but it would def pressure his ball handling, making him work harder just to maitain his dribble.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
