Black Snake or Cottonmouth?

There are only 2 snakes in our part of NC you need to worry about... Cottonmouth and Copperhead... Both have arrow shaped heads and one is dark brown/black and patterned, and the other is copper colored...

There are 3 different rattlers in NC, but none in our neck of the woods... and the coast will have the occasional coral snake...

All in all they are mostly harmless... More likely to make you hurt yourself than actually hurt you...

yeah, familiar with those 2 types.. I've seen many copperheads, and then even more that look just like copperheads that turned out to be nonpoisonous..

I'm coming to the conclusion the ones that I only get a 10 second look at are not poisonous, and the ones who just sit around are poisonous.. killed a copperhead last year bathing in the sun. popped him in the head with a big ass 2x4.. 30 minutes later, he was still moving around.. (yes, his head had exploded from the pop)

a coworker of mine (now deceased) used to tell the story of how he and some friends used to stuff a huge black rat snake into a purse and leave it in the middle of the road... people would stop and snag the purse and peel off down the road... after a few feet, they'd slam on brakes and you'd see everyone file out of the car... lol

Speaking of snakes..

Back i my framing days i use to put this big, nasty looking rubber snake under plywood boards or in a box of nails so that one of my co workers would fall victim to my awesome prank.

Dirty but funny as hell.

aww man don't kill any snakes... they are good pest control

I hear ya.. was at someone's house with kids playing near by, would do it again.. I normally don't want to fug with a poisonous snake anyway. Less of a chance for me to get bitten if I walk away from it.

Bleys...probably just a rat snake or a big grey water snake.

Even wildlife officers at Jordan Lake will tell you we have water snakes...not cottonmouths. If you do...they are rare. Cottonmouths around here aren't typically black...they are dark with a pattern. Relatively short with large heads. I've been on the Chowan River enough to have seen my share of cottonmouths.

I used to kill every damned snake I'd come across in my yard, but I've gotten a bit more tolerant to black, king, and corn snakes. I've killed copperheads though. Lot of them in Garner area. Killed big aggressive water snakes too that like to get in our pool. You'd swear they were moccasins due to their meanness...but they aren't poisonous. Will still bite the crap out of you...but not send you to the hospital.

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
