Newton to take part in player-organized workouts

yeah...you could find negative things to dwell on regarding these workouts (as has been seen in this thread) but overall when you look at who these guys are and the resources they have at their disposal any negatives that could happen have a very remote chance of actually happening. all of these guys are going to be working out one way or the other. the risk of injury is always there. seems like this is more of a controlled environment and it will go a long way in helping these guys get on the same page (which is really going to be needed considering everything that is changing this year).

I think the fans view Smitty has a bigger leader than he legitimately has been in Carolina. I don't think the players look at him like that (enough came out after the Lucas punching incident imo to support that).

Smitty hasn't been the best role model as a leader over the last few years, but there is nothing to support that he didn't step up last year in that role.

if you ever saw him on the sidelines, you wouldn't say that.

again, just to reiterate, he could have been a much better leader over the years.. some guys have it, some don't.. but he put in effort last year to be a leader.

he was one of few I ever saw trying to motivate Clausen and keep his head in the game. Even in '09, he stepped up.

I'm not sure where all this hate for Smitty comes from.. couldn't be further from the truth.

just because he throws a fit sometimes doesn't erase everything he does..

I wonder if our wide-receivers got a copy of the new playbook- are Gettis, LaFell, and Armanti attending? I think their development is in danger as many recievers make big strides in their first couple years

So who exactly is running the offense at these drills? I have this terrible image of Jimmy Clausen trying to teach Cam Newton an NFL offense.

I'd feel more comfortable if Cam brought the damn offense to IMG and they all learned from Weike and what not.

The article mentioned that Weinke and Dorsey will be there so I expect they wil participate. Most other player organized workout used professional coaches and I am sure this one will as well. So the concern about this being a free for all and likely to call problems is way overblown and chicken little logic. Unfortunately that seems to be de rigueur these days.

I saw a blip for the Saints practice, and Brees seemed to be the one in charge. But it was just a 30 second blip, so I can't really say what went on the rest of the time.

From everything I have seen or heard, these workouts are just that, workouts. Work on conditioning and comradere.

Lots of guys work out together, this is just on a larger scale.

I think anyway, and GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
