Who will the Panthers bring in to help on offense?

V-Jax; no thanks. Why would anyone want to pay a WR that much money when he is obviously a jerk who cares nothing about anyone but himself. Not a team player IMO. SD wasn't really hurting without him.

Im not a big fan of Rice either personally. Everyone in Minny considered him a bust until Brett had the best year of his career. He hasn't done much since. He may still be good but the price will be too high for a one year wonder IMO especially considering the circumstances of that one year.

Personally, I'll be thrilled to death if the Panthers show any inclination at all to improve through FA. Our front office has pretty well trained me to throw away my wish lists. Every fuging year, it's who we're going to dump, never who we might acquire.

:dupe: Let me clear a few things up for you... SD was CRIPPLED without him and I remember them winning way more games when he came back than they did while he was sitting out (not looking up actual #'s for you) do it yourself.

I'd take VJ but wouldn't pay him what Minny was going to pay him last yr. I think they were desperate after Rice punked out and were willing to spend more to win then... See Moss trade to further prove my point.

Rice was a bust!? Wow!!! Hasn't done much since? Ummm... He hasn't really played since. He was a Beast and has that ceiling and ability to play at that level, but I would still pass on him. He's the reason why Minnesota sucked so badly last year!

The reason NOT to take Rice is because he's a Lil beeitch!! He intentionally didn't undergo surgery that he knew he needed after the Saints put them out. He didn't think Favre was coming back and instead underwent surgery right before the season started. Beeitch move!!! That's why u pass on rice!

I was in SD for the season last year and they are my second favorite team. I watched every game minus a couple that were blacked out. I don't need to look up stats because I saw the games. The fans there generally hate him. Never once did any one that I watched a game with say a single thing about needing him or any other receiver. STs were the problem especially in the first half of the year.

As for Rice? You proved my point by stating specifics as if it were an argument.

I looked up the stats for fun. Look at them. Do math if necessary but it shouldn't be. Then admit that you are wrong.

50 ypg. Only one 300 Pypg with him/ several 400 Pypg without him.

LOL in one of those games Rivers was sacked 14 times and still threw 431 yards. Yeah V-Jax was the missing piece of the puzzle.

Admittedly I've often felt this way, but I've seen some of those same nobodies become contributing players. In addition a new coaching staff may change the low key approach that the previous group chose to use. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully sooner than later!:mad2:

Man, were you at the Panthers game when Rosario caught the game winner!? That would have been so awesome to be there. And you are correct sir, no argument on Rice, I should have specified... Posting from my iPhone and it sucks!

Nah I was only there last year I live in NC most of the time. I was actually at work and screamed so loud that people came to make sure I was OK when that hapened. LOL

Given the apparent shift in the type of players we drafted, I am really looking forward to the direction that we go in FA. This is a new Panthers Franchise.

If Chud's offense is going to be similar to the Chargers, he will definitely look to spread the ball around.

He has his passing threats at TE with Shockey, Barnidge, and Rosario (assuming Barnidge and Rosario stay). He has his RB's.

We have two good young WR's in LaFell and Gettis. Smitty is likely gone. The Lil Hawiian is an unknown rookie. I definitely see him making a move to bring in a solid WR.

OLine and DT depth is probably a big focus...as is maybe another CB (depending on how the Marshall issue plays out).

They say Plaxico is bound to be snapped up by the Eagles or Jets, cause he probably wants to be close to home. I wish we could get him, a good FA WR is hard to find.
Would welcome Burress with open arms...
why? at this moment and going forward...he's not better than sidney rice or braylon edwards. it's not like he's mike vick coming out of prison.

he's 33 and would be 34 by the time the season started. he hasn't played since '08. aside from being a dummy and shooting himself he's been in trouble a lot and has been a problem for both the steelers and the giants when he was with both teams. just a reminder of his issues...

Just before the start of the Giants mandatory May mini-camp, Burress had said that he would not participate in the camp because he was upset with his contract.[8] He attended the camp to avoid paying a fine but refused to practice with the team.[9] Although he was slated to receive $3.25 million for 2008, Burress felt underpaid compared to other star receivers.[9] After indicating that he might hold out training camp as well,[8] he joined, but practiced very little, claiming his ankle was injured.[10]

On September 24, 2008, the team announced that Burress would be suspended for the game on October 5 for a violation of team rules.[11] He did not show up for work on a Monday and could not be reached by phone for two days. This was not the first time that Burress had been temporarily suspended by an NFL team—in May 2004, he was suspended by the Pittsburgh Steelers for failing to show up for a Monday team practice. On October 24 he was issued three fines totaling $45,000 for the following reasons:

  1. $20,000 for post game comments regarding officiating—specifically, inappropriate comments on officiating.
  2. $20,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct—specifically, verbal abuse of the head linesman.
  3. $5,000 for throwing the ball in the stands.

Burress signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension prior to the season. However, it was an incentive laced deal, there is $11.5 million in non-guaranteed base salaries in the contract, non-guaranteed roster bonuses of $3.5 million, non-guaranteed escalators of $5 million based on performance and $1.3 million in non-guaranteed workout bonuses among other things. According to various reports, the Giants would be able to cut or trade Burress after the season and get $23 million taken off their books [12]

On November 2, in the second quarter of the Giants first regular-season game against the Dallas Cowboys, Burress caught his 500th career reception. On November 23, 2008 Burress started the game against the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona after being considered questionable with a hamstring injury. The first play of the game he had a 4 yard reception but it was called back on a penalty. Burress left the game and did not return in what would be his final appearance with the Giants.

Burress was released by the Giants on April 3, 2009.[13]

Legal troubles

Domestic disturbances

In August and September 2008, Totowa police responded to two domestic disturbance calls at the Burress household. At both times temporary restraining orders were issued that were later dismissed by state court.[15]

Civil lawsuits

In January 2009, Burress was the defendant in a civil lawsuit brought against him by a Lebanon County, Pennsylvania car dealer, who claimed that Burress was given a leased Chevrolet Avalanche in return for promises to appear at publicity events for the dealership. The dealer claimed that Burress never returned the car and never attended any publicity events; the damaged car was eventually returned after being impounded by the New York Police Department. Burress acknowledged that he was responsible for some of the damage to the car, but asked a jury to determine the amount.[16] On January 15, 2009 the jury returned a verdict awarding only $1,700 to the dealer, who had asked for damages of up to $19,000.[17] According to the Associated Press, Burress has been sued at least nine times since he joined the NFL in 2000.[18]

He has a civil lawsuit pending against him in Broward County, Florida, where a woman claims that his $140,000 Mercedes-Benz collided with the back of her car. The suit, filed on December 8, 2008, claims that Burress was liable for causing permanent injuries to the woman. It is noted that because Burress failed to pay his car insurance premium his policy was cancelled 3 days before the accident.[19]

Driving violations

Burress was pulled over by Florida police on March 11, 2009 and ticketed for four separate moving violations: speeding, improper display of tags, improper lane change and for improper window tinting.[41] The charges were subsequently dismissed by a Fort Lauderdale magistrate "because the officer ... didn't supply information on how to pay the tickets."[42]

btw...that last driving violation happened after he got in trouble for shooting himself. just dumb.

i'm all for second chances, but this guy has had a lot of them. if it was just the one issue of him shooting himself. if he was younger....maybe. but he was a locker room and team cancer before he got shot himself. coaches and teammates were annoyed with his attitude.

let some other team waste a roster spot and cap space on this guy. i'd rather work with players who have a future. i'm not big on players older than 30, but if they are, they better have been active the past few years. plax is just not worth the gamble.
