Cam 5th most famous face in the NFL already???

Recommended Posts

as far as fans in other states...i doubt they would find fitz more recognizable than newton. they might recognize the name...but the face isn't particularly.

i've got no idea what these guys look like when the helmet is off. i doubt most people do. disagree or not, more people are going to recognize newton's face quicker than fitz. newton's just a popular figure and he's getting a whole lot more publicity than fitz. probably safe to say that newton has gotten more publicity this year than fitz has gotten at any one point in his career.

i am sorry, but i have to disagree. i think most fans will know his face, especially his hair too. like it or not Fitzgerald is a very popular name and face. he was recognized since college when he dominated his sophomore year and was hyped highly. i just dont see how Newton is 5th best though with many other faces in the NFL including Fitz, but there are OTHER names, like Rodgers, Sanchez (like it or not, his face is famous thanks to New York and USC), Drew Brees, The Golden Calf of Bristol, Brady and of course Manning and those are just QBs.

Silly argument, but ok that's what message boards are for.

To most people outside of Arizona, and probably within Arizona, Fitz almost certainly looks like nothing more than a big black guy with dreds when he's not playing football or on TV - AND he's usually wearing a helmet on TV. And he's not exactly a media hound.

I'll try and convey it this way - I don't think I would recognize Fitz at an airport without a pretty good look, and I'm positive my sister-in-law, for instance, wouldn't. However, I would recognize Newton immediately anywhere, and I think she would too, though she's not a big NFL fan.

"like it or not"? i've got no hate. it's simple...you show people on the street a picture of fitz and a picture of cam newton...both in street clothes and more people are going to recognize newton and name him. of course in arizona and maybe in pennsylvania where he went to school they might be able to recognize fitz, but in the average town cam newton is going to be more recognizable. thats not jock riding...it's just telling the truth.

how about this...people in marketing will tell you that a great way to check the popularity of a certain person, company, or product is by looking at how many searches are done on google or other search engines. they know that if there is a lot of searches, then its a hot commodity. the easiest way to find out search volume is by looking at google trends. put cam newton and larry fitzgerald in it and this is what you'll find...

it's really not a matter of opinion. cam newton is just more popular a figure to the average person than larry fitzgerald. doesn't mean that he's more accomplished or more talented....just more popular.

the only reason i disagree is because i think people will recognize him. seriously, he's very recognizable. his hair is part of the reason, but i can say without a doubt that is Fitzgerald with his face, BUT like i said he's only part of who i think has a more popular face, there ARE others. Newton isnt coming in as a top 5 recognizable face. i still think people know more about Brady's face, Peyton and even Eli Manning's face, The Golden Calf of Bristol's, Aaron Rodgers', Philip Rivers' Drew Brees', Michael Vick's, and even POSSIBLY Ben Roethlisberger's faces too. these guys are recoginizable faces. Most of these players have recoginizable faces due to Super Bowl wins, off the field issues, or in The Golden Calf of Bristol's case, a load of hype. i am NOT saying Newton is unrecognizable, i just dont think he's top five.

meh... he's top 5 or 10 easily. again, for the very casual fan and non fan he's going to be easier to recognize primarily because of the hype that he's had the past few months. he's been more talked about, more searched for, and has had more said about him in the media and on the internet than most of those guys you listed. it isn't all positive, but it's all attention that has made him so recognizable.

already he's more marketable than most of those guys and thats only going to grow if he wins and stays out of trouble. he's going to quickly rise to the top in endorsement deals if he does that.

when football gets back going again, his face is going to be everywhere as people start talking about him again. it will happen more than it did for rookie QBs taken in the first round in recent years just because there is so much debate over him.
