CAR: Newton Wearing #2 'Not a Big Deal'

Frank Tadych, from NFL.com, reports rookie QB Cam Newton is not concerned about getting the #2 from second-year player Jimmy Clausen. "I really don't care. It's just a number to me," Newton said. "Gossip sells, and I understand that with people hearing I wore No. 2 in college, and Jimmy has it right now, (but) it's not a big deal to me. I just want to get that out of the way and throw it out there. It's not the number. It's the person wearing it."

Newton wore the #2 and won National Championships the last two years, one with Auburn and one with Blinn Junior College. However, when he first played college football at the University of Florida he wore the #13. We don't think Clausen will get cut from the Panthers roster this year, but he's certainly not the future. If Newton really wants the number then all he has to do is wait.

Just a number, I'm glad he feels the same way.

well, he wore the #2 in high school as well, but yeah...only people getting upset over all of this are the media and people in here addicted to drama.

This tells me not to buy his jersey then.... At least to see how it plays out. Also, This is Reebok's last year to make our jerseys. I'll wait til next year so I can get a FAT Nike jersey, and by then his # situation will have worked itself out.

this isnt a shocker, people overblew this jersey deal. either Newton pays Clausen for that number or he gets another number.

I am sure the front office wouldnt mind Cam having a different #, then eventually if/when Clausen is no longer here if he then switched to #2. That way you would have tons of fans buying his jersey twice.
