Lucas might get traded

THe only way we trade him is if someone really wants him. Otherwise they would just wait for him to be cut and then negotiate their own deal. Why lose a draft pick and be obligated to pick up his large salary for 2009 when you can get him for less once he is cut. Unless he is valuable to someone, it won't happen.

What are the salary impacts whether we trade or cut him. I know we will be on the hook for the rest of the guaranteed part of his salary in either case. But couldn't we use a June 1st cut for him and stretch his cap hit over 2 years? Or has that gone away, given that next year is an uncapped year, like everything else?

It's gone away, the hit takes place on the current year because of the uncapped year.

He could be traded after agreeing to a restructured contract.

That said, I still see it more likely he's cut.

Champ would have sucked with the cushion and D our CB's were playing last year

yep! If Godfrey was playing over the top of Gamble then offenses would have picked on him more. Gamble also wasn't as impressive as people want to believe. When Gamble drops back into coverage and isn't defending a quick throw he is pretty average also in our system.
