How will Rivera's defense be different?

true, and overall I think he has just as much talent to play with here as in prior stops.
agreed.

rivera didn't exactly have an all star cast when he had the best defense in the league last year. no merriman. no cromartie. who did they have? eric weddle and shaun phillips? not really a whole lot in the way of studs. no one had a ton of tackles. shaun phillips had 11 sacks which is pretty good, but just as many as charles johnson had.

he's had some really good players, but his defenses have worked well without any big studs. we have some good players on this team, maybe better than what he had last year...at least on par with what he had. if the offense can give the defense a break, they should be able to do well. this might not be saying much, but i see us having the best defense in the NFCS next year.

Cover 2 with a Jim Johnson front at times and some basic zone blitzing. Not more blitzing, but hopefully more effective blitzing. Everybody thinks that we're going to blitz every play and those are the same guys who think that when the DE rushes the passer that's a blitz too. You don't have to blitz to get pressure, and the Chargers actually didn't blitz a lot. Because they didn't have to blitz to get to the QB.

And Fiz is annoying in part because he's right a lot.

I'm still not sold on the DL. Need to see some decent DT play and I think I am one of the few worried about the RDE spot (and all that is assuming CJ is signed w/ no problem).

only issue i had was with the interior of that line. i feel good about the draft picks, but i've got more confidence in who they will be bringing in FA this year. knowing we have two incredibly bright guys running the defense and rivera's eye for talent and ability to bring out the best in people, i know that who the bring in will be solid and much better than we had last year. they don't have any delusions that they have guys here who can do the job well and they won't have any qualms about spending money to get solid talent.

DL was the weak spot, but i'm just not concerned about it holding the defense back like it did last year. it won't happen.

concerning DE...CJ will be back and we've got enough talent to handle what rivera and mcdermott will want to do. i'm just not concerned about it at all.

Castillo, Cason, Jammer, Grey, and good lord Kevin Burnett are all Very Good Players.

Did you watch a single Chargers game last year?

Garay.

Not to mention Applewhite, and Cooper.

You can also cover up some ish with the 34 a little better than with the 43.

yes.

what he had was some good players. not an all star cast. not a bunch of pro bowlers. they weren't "scrubs out of the stands" like you said i was saying, but they weren't a bunch of studs either.

Trust me on this one, the Chargers have more talent on their D roster than we do right now.

Agreed, stunts, shifts and zone blitzes was what made JJ defense. Still its yet to be seen what Rivera will do with his defense. Something tells me it might be slightly more exotic than JJs. Maybe not year one but year two and three we are going to see some different looks from our defense.

Fiz is right half the time and the other half he just uses POS. On a board of opinions its quite easy to play Devils advocate and come out being right.

thats debatable, except i'm not going to any further. consider it a concession or whatever. type of discussion that could go on for a long time and i'd just rather not.

doesn't matter anyway. i still stand by my statement saying his system doesn't need a lot of stars to be successful. it's all opinion. you got a different one. neat.
