Panthers punter is not amused by jersey number talk

Tell our franchise punter to know his role... and shut his mouth! We've never heard a single word from him and now all of a sudden he wants to get all froggy? His opinion actually matters the LEAST.

He's paid his dues to this team....Cam and Jimmy have not. If anyone should be shutting their mouths it's those two, not Baker....

Not sure he has said exactly that yet.

"No intention of giving up his number"is just the way the writer made it sound more controversial when they did not have an actual quote.

the way I saw it anyway

Actually Baker's text was that he "had no intent" on giving up his number that he doesn't really care about.

And as for the quote “I certainly hope that the guy who takes the snaps this fall at quarterback is more interested in the playbook and running an offense than he is the shirt that he wears over his pads,” That's certainly true of Cam; I wonder how much Baker is studying the play....oh that's right, he's a punter.

He should. He also answered a question honestly about the number when asked. I think everyone makes a bigger deal about things because there is nothing else going on.

You are wrong dude. I have it on good authority (from the friend of my mom's third cousin, twice removed) that Cam has said he isn't playing unless he gets that jersey number and a free latte every day before practice. :coolgleamA:

cam simply can't play without #2, he'll have flashbacks to Florida, it'll be terrible. or so some of you seem to think.

cam was asked about the #2 so why would he shut his mouth about it. i can understand if he was dragging it on, but he was asked about it.

this is the truth. he isn't exactly seeming to bring it up and as far as we know it's only people asking the questions that make it seem like he's deeply invested in it. not surprised he wants it back but I thought he was always a "but we'll see how it goes" kinda answer. if he gave an ultimatum tho, whatever.

seems a bigger issue to the fans than the players...

But to the topic, Baker is one of the most consistent performers on the entire team. I have spent many games on the sidelines and the guy never sits down, never stops moving, and takes his job very seriously.

I'm surprised at all the cut his a$$ talk. You take a single clog out of a watch it no longer keeps time. No matter how small the clog, or how much you may see it, its a vital component to the big scheme.

Cam was asked if he would want #2. When asked, he answered and hasn't said word fuging one about it since his post-draft interview.

If he wanted it, Clausen would have to be willing to sell it and Cam would have to pay up. Cam can't force anything and hasn't tried.

I don't know how that gets twisted into "omg Cam needs to stfu and work stop worrying about numbers!!" unless you're some mouth-breathing idiot who still needs flash cards when they tie their shoes, provided they remember to actually put them on when leaving the trailer.

Cam is and has been training and learning the playbook since.. oh.. two days after the draft, despite half the board thinking when he was drafted that he'd still be drunk/making it rain in Cancun right now. He hasn't said or done anything negative. Grow up, stop venting stupid bile into any thread where his name comes up and move on.

Uh...Cam hasn't demanded anything from anybody on the Panthers roster. All he said was that he liked #2 because he was the 2nd child born to his parents. Then he said it wasn't a big deal what # he ends up with.

Leave it to the media and the huddle to get all worked up over nothing.

Wow, if there is not football soon, I am afraid there might just be some blood shed around here.

One factoid not mentioned as of yet, is the fact that football players, as well as most athletes, are very superstitious.

The rule of thumb on jersey numbers has always been that the Vet gets first crack at any number. Said Vet can do one of two things; 1) Keep said number, 2) Give or sell said number.

Clausen did not get his #7 from Baker, which IS Bakers' right. Unfortunately, that probably means Cam is not going to get Clausens' #2. Just the way things go in the highly competitive nature of the NFL.

I am not saying something cannot be worked out. Just that with the way things are set up, Baker has all the say in how this works out.

Just my thoughts, and GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
