Panthers punter is not amused by jersey number talk

Newton's a rookie. He should take whatever number they have available, and feel fortunate that he is getting paid a lot of money to play a game.

He should. He also answered a question honestly about the number when asked. I think everyone makes a bigger deal about things because there is nothing else going on.

The collective iq of the huddle took a major hit from the panthers drafting cam.

This I will agree with completely.

But to the topic, Baker is one of the most consistent performers on the entire team. I have spent many games on the sidelines and the guy never sits down, never stops moving, and takes his job very seriously.

If he gives up #7 I doubt he will give a sh-t about it but I hope he gets rewarded handsomely. Something with Swiss Movement at a minimum.

i have a solution but JR has to give in a little too. Cam get 2. Jimmy gets 7. Baker gets 1 cuz he was the MVP last year. Literally.

Punter salary/number of plays on the field = cheapest team member.

solution is even easier than that.

after TC and preseason when it is obvious Jimmy ain't worth taking up a roster spot b/c of the type scheme Chud runs we just cut Jimmy and give him a chance in an offense he fits. Cam/vet/Moore.

Everyone is happy.

Whoever can dig up the ACTUAL most ridiculous thing ever posted here gets unlimited pie from me for every post that I see them make until football starts. I'm here daily, and read almost every thread. I can't guarantee pie on posts I don't see, but otherwise it's yours. The rest of the huddle can vote for the winner by using a majority pie vote system. Requires quote and link to original thread.

Inset NotAwesomeness thread here....

Then why does he not want to give up his Jersey? Kinda hypocritical there.

Better question why should he have to give up his jersey so an unproven rookie can get someone else's jersey...

Not sure he has said exactly that yet.

"No intention of giving up his number"is just the way the writer made it sound more controversial when they did not have an actual quote.

the way I saw it anyway

wouldn't be surprised.. we saw 1st hand how they blew Cam's quotes out of proportion..

    • People are using this "three year period" to gloss over the reality that he was very mid last year and in Purdy's case, "last year" means 40% of his starts. I don't "hate" Purdy, I just think he's a very middle of the pack starter and you can't pay those guys $50M+ a year. GMs and coaches can because they just want to keep their jobs. But as a fanbase if you're wanting to compete for SBs, ugh... you're basically resigning yourself to mediocrity with decisions like this.
    • Unless a miracle happens and we're legit SB contenders, I want to just miss the playoffs due to some close losses, not win the division to lose in the first round. We finally have all of our picks again next year, I'd rather be picking 5-7 spots higher in each round, while at the same time, then having a 2nd or 3rd place schedule next year instead of a 1st place one. I just can't see any scenario where we are true contenders this year, but we should find out if Bryce can be our QB of the future.  If he isn't, then we're not making the playoffs anyways and will have a high pick to replace him.  If he is, it means 2026 is the real opening of our SB window once we add some more defensive pieces, so I'd rather go into that season picking earlier and have an easier schedule. And yes, I know people will say think like "you need to win to gain confidence and experience, blah blah blah" But just missing out on the playoffs because you lost couple close games is certainly a way to make a team hungry going into the offseason and keep them motivated to be better. I've said it before and still think it holds true, we need to look at the Lions and hope to repeat their path. Our last few years were their early 2020s when they sucked.  This year can be our version of their 2022 when they missed the playoffs in week 17.  Then our 2026 can be their 2023 when they made a run to the NFC Championship game (and really should have won it).  Which then puts us in line to be one of the best teams in the league going into 2027, as they were last year.
    • Hmmmmm, sounds like a familiar fear And sure, a big part of my fear was the injury concern (that will always follow Bryce around) but the everything else I said is the same. If he's too good to let walk in FA but not good enough to justify a top end contract, we're in the worst possible situation
