Father Son Bonding...

Recommended Posts

I get along great with my dad.. someone who I don't think twice to bring around my friends cause he's cool when he let's loose.

I took him to a Panthers game last year, we need to do more (like hit some fishing holes), but we have a strong bond... even if it's an unspoken one.

a far cry from how he was raised..

I coach my son and the rest of the t-ball team, we take the kids out to ChikFilA every Friday night. It used to be Mexican every week, but the kids wont sit still long enough for us to eat a restaurant dinner, so CFA it is... I spend as much time as I can with DJ, I really wish I had more time. I will take both kids to a neighborhood park regularly, it was a lot more frequent before t-ball... I do make it a point to do something with the kids each weekend and play hard with them...

My dad? Thats a little different, not going to get into it now. It took me a long time to be able just to deal with those feelings, and if it werent for my son being born, I dont know if he would be even talkin now....

I never knew my natural dad. Bad story and a lot of hurt/hatred there. Nuff said.

I think that's why I have strived to be a good Father to all my yunguns. I make it a point to do something special with each one or in pairs.

With my oldest, it was just hanging out and seeing what comes up.

With my 2nd, it was horseshoes. I pitched for the local club and she started out scorekeeping and harassing me. She eventually worked her way up the ladder to tournament Director before she left for the Navy.

With my older PanthaSons it was camping/fishing/hunting or just hanging out in the outdoors. I taught them the natural skills when they were young and they really breezed through Scouts because of it. We used to backpack camp and you should hear them gripe when we go camping with the relatives in 5th wheels.

With my middle daughter it is Urban trips. We will go to a big city and just wander around looking at the sites or art or museums. We like to ride the train up the valley, eat lunch and come back the same day.

With my youngest daughter it is softball. She just started playing last year and MamaSan's family are very well known in this town for playing and coaching. Sometimes I feel like they push her too hard (she's only 6) so I like to take her to a field, watch older girls play or practice with her on her level.

The youngest PanthaSons are too young so we just hang out on the floor and rassle or throw rocks at the squirrels.
