Who will be the suprise cut this year?

Hate to say it....Hoover. Love him, but...a lot of mileage on that tank. He once described his position as "running into a garage door 40 times a game."

He’s still playing well though, and in my opinion was a key part in our running game’s success. I’m sure he’ll start to wear down, but I think he had a great year last year.

I’d love to see Hoover take our newest fullback acquisition, Nehemiah Bell, and show him the tricks of the trade. The guy may never work out, but he’s got great size and I think he could fit in well with our offense.

If only you could put the knowledge Hoover has acquired over the years and put it into his body of seven years ago. Lot of wear and tear, though.

Moose will not get cut. He's old.. Probably can't catch and run as well as he used to. but he's still a badass blocker down field and that alone will mean we won't cut him until he's ready to go.

My guess on the surprise cut is.. Na'il Diggs. I think the defensive youth movement will continue.. and he'll be a casualty.

I agree, and P.S. they are selling Diggs game-worn jerseys along with Lucas and Jarrett game-worn jerseys at the Panthers store today... only three active players with game-worn jerseys being sold.

I would say Jarrett would be another "suprise" cut.

Most of you guys are looking at who could be replaced, who is getting older, etc but you aren't looking at the important factors, price versus production. Moose for example won't be let go because he was very productive and is pretty cheap. Jarrett wasn't productive but it would be stupid to let him go while he is playing under a cheap rookie contract.

Johnson was retained not because he was productive or inexpensive but rather it was as cheap to restructure and resign him than it was to release him. So we kept him for another year.

Hoover won't be gone because he is relatively cheap and if we cut him we have a pretty big cap hit since he is only in year 1 of a three year contract.

Diggs is scheduled to make 1.65 million this year. Hardly a big number for a starting linebacker in the league.

Who could be cut? Possibly Damione Lewis who has a 3.2 million salary and a higher salary cap. But we might have to give him an injury settlement since he can't be cut while he is recovering from surgery. Otherwise we will likely keep him or at least wait until training camp.

Brayton at 1.8 million could be cut but he seems cheap for what we got out of him last year.

Bridges was a good contributor but problems with the law tarnish him somewhat. He has a 1.25 million salary.

Lucas's 9.1 million salary seems a no brainer but only not cutting him would be a surprise.

If we trade Lucas it will be for a 5th rounder or less I suspect. All they will be doing is giving us something so they get first dibs. The biggest stumbling block is his very large salary. Why trade for him when you can negotiate your own contract once he is cut. I suspect they could rework the contract once they sign him but it still seems the best way for anyone to go is to wait until next week and then go after him.
