Greg Cosell talks about Clausen

WHy? If he comes out slinging why will the effort be futile?

I am tired of all this stupid Clausen bashing. I understand most of you now are cam lover Auburn fans, but this is a Panthers board and Clausen is a Panther. It's pathetic this fanbase judges of a rookie under last year's circumstances. If Newton sucks one year, will you guys ditch him like this?

Clausen will have a chip on his shoulder and I hope that motivates him to compete for the job. I will cheer him on like any other Panther and if that chip on his shoulder turns him into a better QB than Newton, he should start for the Panthers. It would be stupid to not want to see CLausen preforms under these new circumstances and better team oh and one full offseason in the NFL (hopefully).

Cam has nothing to do w/ the Clausen bashing.

If Cam has 300+ NFL pass attempts and can't get a WR into the endzone....he will suck as well (regardless of scenario).

Clausen may have a chip on his shoulder.....but that chip won't make him taller, stronger, faster, change his throwing mechanics, or change the mindset he has played the game w/ for probably a decade. It also won't make him fit into a scheme that doesn't suit his skill set.

a mid season trade to a team who has lost their starter and #2 would hold the most value for us especially for a west coast offense. i feel he could deliver short quick passes well enough to be a starting backup to a team in a pinch.

the problem is locating a WCO. not many teams using them and probably more will stop. it's just too complicated. andy reid actually let mornhinweg abandon his WCO for a spread offense last year to better suit vick's skill set. is that a long term thing? who knows? but the temptation is going to be there for more teams to abandon it.

The only thing that will prohibit our trading Jimmy Clausen is that...

There is NOT a 17th Round draft pick anyone could offer us.

isn't that why we couldn't move jarrett and shelton?

someone should send hurney a memo or something.

The old QB rating argument huh?

Since defending poorly performing QB's has been your focus lately, how do you rate a QB?

Give me the top 4 ratable qualities you look for in a QB and how JimmyC and MattM shine through?

Give me the speech that Rob Chudinzki gives Marty Hurney to not trade or cut either of them.

I'd love to hear it.

i implied Jimmy never accomplished anything in college. he didn't. he had a losing record and never beat a single team worth a hoot.

that is not implying you have to win a NC or Heisman.....Name a great QB who had a losing record in college and didn't have a single decent win in college?

They guy had 28 touchdowns and 4 ints, 8.1 ypc and was one of those most proffeicent Quarterbacks in college in 09, hampered by everything but his WR's and TE.

Clausen was the absolute last reason Notre Dame wasnt successfull. You can make other arguments of why he wouldn't translate to the NFL, But the lack of wins isn't one of them.

Again, Clausen had a losing record and beat NO ONE.

Who cares if he had good stats against Nevada throwing screen passes. Weiss put an emphasis on screens and dink and dunking with Clausen......and when you are Notre Dame playing a weak schedule that will result in some nice stats

Which had very little to do with Clausen. He played lights out. The reason for the record was his sorrounding team. The offence was talented enough to get 10 or 11 wins.

You don't get a 8.1 ypc for the entire season by just throwing screen and small passes. Clausen frequentley threw long passes in both 08 and 09.

You can't argue with CRA, he is a Cam homer in the worst kind of way.

I don't love me some Clausen, but I don't hate him either. It's foolish to say that he did nothing in College, he was a very good college QB, on a very bad team.

Um, did you watch Clausen at Notre Dame? Yes, Clausen occassionally threw long passes but for the most part Weiss had him throwing screens, checking down, and letting the WRs/RBs do the work after the catch.

You can still find footage of Clausen at ND....and he played just like he did as a rookie in the NFL. Only difference is you can get away with that nonsense in college.

Stats lie. Clausen was primarely a dink and dunker at ND who made his OL look worse than they were.

definately not a Cam homer. Calling out Clausen for what he is was done before Cam was in the picture. Cam was a gamble Carolina had to make......claiming that isn't the same as being a Cam homer.

Clausen didn't win and he didn't beat anyone in college. He didn't do anything in college....winning and beating people is what football is about. Losing but nitpicking selective stats isn't an "accomplishment". Clausen throwing a screen and the RB/WR going for 40 ain't impressive......

Go watch his "perfect game" ......he has never been impressive.

n high school and college he would beat up on teams he was suppose to beat.....and that is all he ever did. He would lead a more talented team to victory of a lesser talented team. Nothing more.
