Bed bugs!!!!!!

They also like to climb in your luggage and come home with you, then your house is infected, none of your friends come over anymore, your kids come home crying from school everyday, and your wife thinks you've been up to no good. Very expensive to get rid of also.

Try to put your luggage on a luggage rack or tub/shower whenever possible....saw a co-worker that traveled a lot go through this in his brand new 4,200 sq. ft. home. His family had to move out while they tried to get rid of them, not to mention it took forever to feel comfortable in his own home again. I had no idea about them until I saw what he went through.

My largest clients are Hotels. I call on 10-15 hotels a day. I also stay in a hotel 2-3 nights a week.

Did you know that Bed Bugs are a lot more common than you would think? I have been in some really nice hotels (hilton, marriott) and they have had multiple infestations. They spread very quickly, and can be thought of as an STD (They dont discriminate, they spread very fast, if you bring them home, you can infect your entire family).

For those who dont know, bedbugs come out at night, suck your blood, can transmit diseases, leave painful blisters, and are Atlanta Falcons fans.

Beware! Check your mattress every time you check in!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

so you can pretty much sum this thread up in 4 words?

damn they must be some creepy fugers..

<<<< Hotel vet. Actually typing this from a hotel right now. Got them last year at a Courtyard in Chicago. A few tips:

1) Never put your suitcase on the bed

2) Immediately remove the commforter and blanket and throw in the corner (I do this anyways)

3) Remove the sheet and mattress cover and look in between the mattress and the seams of the mattress. If you see any tiny black specs, it is most likely bed bug poop. Ask to me moved to a different room immediately.

4) Leave your suitcase in the garage for about 48 hours after you return home

5) I never take my socks off and put towels down on all the furniture before I sit down. I never use the couches or upholstered chairs if they are in my room. Only the office chair covered in towels.

6) Hotels with a lot of international guests tend to have more cases of bed bugs

7) Columbus, OH is one of the worst cities in america when it comes to bed bugs and cheating college football programs

All this and I still got bit by them once. The week before my neighbor did as well while in Chicago.

All good tips, however, did you know that bedbugs can live for 6 months without eating (sucking blood).

Did you bring them home with you? How did you handle them?

My plan going forward is to bring a huge pull tie garbage bag and keep all of my stuff in there (including my suitcase). I do know that they can get into your laptop bag as well. (I have heard that people keep their stuff in the tub on a luggage rack!) They can only be killed by 140 degree water, so an average washer/dryer wont kill them. I have a "steam" button on mine, I am going to immediately throw all of my laundry into the wash when I get home (after 48 hours).

I didn't know about the 6 month deal. And no, I didn't bring them home with me.

I hate hotels rooms yet I spend so much time in them. Life always has its cruel little jokes.

Just last week I stayed at two different NYC-area hotels. I was worried before I went, as I heard about the infestations up in that area.

Fortunately, neither of my hotels was on the registry, and I thoroughly inspected the mattress and pillows at both places and didn't see anything suspicious. I'm guessing that bringing those fuggers into your house is no joke.

I know too much about bed bugs :( from my job ....1st checking the mattress is not always going to show bed bugs you need to look under the box frame. 2nd The headboard pull it off and look for black specs and bugs.3rd if a picture is directly above the headboard pull it off and look for black specs as well, black specs are bed bug poo.

People from NV.CANADA and NY love to travel with bed bugs.
