What positions do we to fill in FA market

Assuming we will have one what postions are critical for us to fill in the FA market?

I know our first prioity will be to sign CJ,TD and others.

On defense I feel we need to sign a cb given marshall wants out.

On offense we need a competent and healthy tackle and wr.I am surprised that Shocky who is injured most of the time is our answer at TE.Do we need a vet qb?If Moore is gone I think absolutly.

1st of all I think Smitty Stays however, if we trade him a Veteran WR will be part of the deal.... Hint hint Jackson

Most important is DT. I think the young talent we have is good but a little Veteran leadership wouldn't hurt.

I think if we offer Marshall a modest contract he will take it. A year or so ago we tendered him at a 3rd rounder (not 100% sure) But the bottom line there were No takers for his services.

Keep Moore or go after Volek. Otherwise we run with what we have.

Go Panthers

I'm pretty sure we have this discussion everyday. Why not go search for the answers throughout the forums?

BECAUSE THE OPENING POST OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SEARCHING. HOW ABOUT STFU AND GOING ALONG YOUR OWN LITTLE WAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE POST. WHO THE FUG ARE YOU TO DETERMINE WHAT IS AND WHAT ISN'T POSTED ON THIS FORUM.

DON'T LIKE IT...... DON'T POST

Im shocked that so few think our O-line need help. Otah goes down and we were done. We need to start FA with strengthening both lines first and then go from there.

uhhhh lee Ziemba? you know that guy we drafted.

I think we'll do what we've done in the past - sign a few second tier FA's and maybe one 'big name' guy like Cofield.

DT: Cofield

OG: Derrick Dockery or Floyd Womack (Keydrick Vincent type solid vet)

WR: Mark Clayton or James Jones (guy who can start if Gettis/LaFell don't step up, but won't cost huge money)

QB: Chad Pennington (if we sign one, it'll be a mentor type vet; Pennington is perfect)

I'm honestly not sure we even bother to address CB beyond some depth. There aren't really any players out there who won't cost a ton that would be a significant upgrade over Captain. I suppose it's possible we go after one of the big name guys, but I suspect we'll wait & see what Hogan has to offer before addressing this position.

I think Schwartz will be fine at guard this year and ziemba or Williams are serviceable backups at tackle. Sometimes you can't fill every hole each year...sometimes you just have to find a bandaid.

With that said I think we will sign a DT like Coefield and a backup QB like Bulger. I feel we could make a splash and go after Cromartie if he doesn't stay with the jets. I do see smitty leaving but I don't see us making a big move at that position. Maybe someone cheap and serviceable like Mike Sims-walker.

Ultimately this strategy is based on what we have done in the past and it's entirely possible that we have changed our strategy based on new leadership. It does seem like everyone has been talking about being aggressive. One thing this team needs is a couple more vets to help lead.

Tough to see until we know who is going or staying. If Smitty stays then WR isn't as urgent. If Marshall stays, then we are fine at CB. If Marshall goes, I would put corner as our #1 need. Vet QB would be right behind that. DT would be 3rd.

in no particular order....

QB: chad pennington...yes, made of glass, but he is far and away the smartest FA QB available. dude has been a coach on the field (and sidelines when hurt) for years. hard to find someone better for newton (and clausen) to learn from in the film room and meetings. he'd be a great set of experienced eyes on the sidelines as well. imo, if newton doesn't start right away then it's either clausen or moore until newton is ready who will then become newton's backup. more than likely clausen just because he's under contract.

WR: sidney rice...local product, probably wouldn't mind being just an hour away from home (about an hour from charlotte to gaffney, right?) so that should be an easy sell. i'd like santonio holmes more (character not much of concern w/ the "molder of men" HC) but NYJ might be willing to throw big money at him and they will probably be the most likely place to get a ring. word is he only wants a multi-year deal and i don't know if that is what the jets want to offer him. braylon edwards would be my third choice. edwards best year was when chud was the OC. might be a good fit.

OL: marshal yanda...plays OT and OG and does well at both. good to have versatile players like that.

justin blalock...not sure how much of a priority re-signing him is for the falcons, but they have 3 OL FAs this year. dude isn't anything spectacular, but he's a very solid player.

DT: cofield and/or mebane. don't care which.

CB: asomugha would be my top choice, of course, but more realistic would be jonathan joseph or chris carr. i have this feeling that we won't be keeping either gamble or marshall around so we might need to pick up another CB. aso, joseph, and carr all could be #1 CBs. for a #2 i would go after josh wilson, antonio cromartie, or ike taylor.

in order...

cofield/mebane

aso/joseph/carr

holmes/rice

yanda/blalock

edwards

pennington

wilson/cromartie/taylor

its alot of FA out there every season but what i like about the Panthers is we always seem to get free-agents that come in and help our team and they usually are not a BIG name. but for this season i think SWidney Rice will be a great fit for carolina being from South Carolina and going to College at South Carolina he will be right at home and another target for our offense. DT would be great. CB is another one. im not completely sould on Captain Munnerlyn yet as a number two and Brandon Hogan is unproven though i like the kid. i was thinking we could go after Ike Taylor. But whatever we do i think it will be a good pick-up.
