Chris Weinke on WFNZ about training Cam

Not really sure that's true but I do agree that he shouldn't be handed the job.

We all know it's his, but at least pretend like he has to earn it.We made the mistake of calling Clausen the Franchise QB before he even signed his contract and we don't know what effect that had on him or the team.

Let him earn it in camp. This way, if he's not as good as expected right away, you aren't forcing him out there and ruining his confidence when he should be learning. If he does "earn" it, great.

After listening to his numerous post-draft interview I would say it's true based on his statements that he (Cam) doesn't want to be handed anything and realizes he has to prove himself and work to gain the respect of his teammates. Rivera said as much during his post-draft interview posted on Panthers.com. I don't think the Panthers are going to hand him anything; however, I do think they're going to give him every chance to earn the starting job. I'd encourage you to check out the post-draft interviews on Panthers.com and his interview with Frank and Moose on WFNZ (May 2nd).

We have a new coach and quite frankly a good coaching staff overall, compared to that train wreck we had last season. I'm not at all nervous about him starting. I have full faith in the new coaching staff (Rivera) to mold an offense around him and his strength. Instead of throwing him into a Jeff Davidson style offense.

It was pretty well known I thought that Hurney said that.

During one of the interviews after one of Clausen's normal performances, he was asked "Has anyone told you that you are still the franchise QB of this team?" And he replied "No, not since right after drafting me"

Basically saying that once they saw him play, they were fugging pissed.

Again how does proving his critics wrong already in terms of work ethic take away from the positive vibe of this thread? Do you not appreciate irony?

And what happens when his accuracy is still an issue, or his footwork? What happens when he throws an interception because he doesn't know how to read a zone defense? Do I get to post the same poo every day or will I get labeled a troll? Are you really going to play the "I'm right" game because I doubt you want to go down that road with Cam.

i think he's fueled by several things, just like most people are.

having to fight for a job goes into the whole fighting for respect thing.

Reaching here but okay. The only time he had to fight for his job he came in 3rd.

Define successful? Do I have to wait 6 years for this to happen? Are you going to have terribly low expectations then claim him successful?

What if he's not? Will you post all the articles questioning his ability to transition to the NFL?

If Cam turns out to be a high end QB, I think all of the analysts who said he probably would be a better TE or WR should get punched in the neck by Daddy Newton and Warren Moon.

And if he doesn't? Does everyone get to punch you and all the others in the neck?

That's a bold statement to make before they have ever taken the sidelines. We have no idea how they are as a staff.

But I guess that's the way this board is going, unrealistically optimistic before anything is shown.

It's a shame Cam or any player had to get drafted while this lockout poo is going on. But it sounds like he's picking up the slack and getting to work despite that fact. That is a VERY good sign, keep it up Cam, we need ya man.
