If the scheme is adjusted to him Im not worried that much. Remember how Delhomme was when he first started with the Panthers? Well expect Chud to do the same with Newton. Lots of runs and PA.

No matter how much effort he puts in, we still all need to remember that he is going to be a rookie and he is going to make rookie mistakes.

The expectations for this kid is going to be sky high in our fan base. We still have to remember that it is ALWAYS a maturation and learning process in the first year or two.

There's no doubt that he'll throw a few picks in his rookie season...

He will have a learning curve as well, once he gets on the field with his actual teammates, and he will have to build chemistry with his wide outs.

The difference with Cam is this: he's a natural leader and is obviously showing that he'll work hard to be great. Along with this, it won't take him long at all to win over that locker room and be the leader on O that this team so desperately has needed the past few years.

The defense will rally and get his back when he makes mistakes, and he will... But what QB in general doesn't? I look forward to watching him grow in a Panthers uniform!

I feel like we just drafted a GREAT player and am ready to get these CBA shinigans over with. We all have a big reason to be excited about football this year.

Amazing how the very strong willed and demanding Rivera has been able to silently sit behind the lockout gate and be so demanding of Cam Newton with just the sheer force of his telekinesis. Clausen wasn't locked out and therefor he was working out with the team. We had already had a mini camp at this time last year so it's not like he needed to be at a different facility practicing, he could do it here.

That calf muscle alone almost makes me want to throw full support behind him but I'm remaining cautious.

Rock Hoover stated that Rivera needed to announce Cam as the starter now and give him all the confidence he needs to lead this team in a segment about what new coaches need to focus on earlier this morning.

don't agree with that at all.

his confidence is already there, imo, and it will grow if he's challenged to win the job. it won't be a big fight to win the job for him, esp. given the competition (and that includes FAs that might be brought in).

if he is who rivera/hurney/richardson think he is, newton will have that job won early. he'll do it without having it handed to him on a silver platter.

now i don't think it will hurt him to go ahead and crown him, but i don't think it will be necessary. i do think he will benefit from even the slightest competition, though. he's fueled by having to fight for stuff.
