Chris Weinke on WFNZ about training Cam

Playoffs in this season is a bit ambitious.

it is very ambitious and im an ambitious fan... I go into every season (including last season) thinking we have a chance to compete with the best. But we have Thomas Davis and Jeff Otah coming back Jordan Gross Travelle Wharton and Deangelo(who i think is coming back) will be healthy. we have a QB now that gives us hope. Charles Johnson had a quiet breakout season. Beason will be BACK at middle linebacker. Conner and LB Johnson back too (for Depth)... I really think we have a shot. even tho the NFC South is the MOST competitive division in football (my opinion)

Except we're in a damn tough division and an equally tough Conference.

Wildcats spots will be tough to get, consider the NFCN and the NFCE.

I don't see us making the post season.

Personally, I don't see a winning season.

yeah but you gotta remember tho as a NFL fan you cant take last seasons success/failures into the next season it dont work like that (Vikings and/or Cowboys last season)... the players we have on our team have won and are used to winning i.e. Smitty, Gamble, Davis, Beason, Williams, Stewart, etc. we are just as good as any other team in our division especially the Bucs and Falcons. I know we will compete this season... and i cant see Cam being okay with losing... i just dont see it in the kid...

I don't know if I'm counting on Otah or not, TD is still an unknown with his knee. We don't know if Williams will be back or not and we're missing a lot of time to learn brand new offense and defense, we're WAY behind the rest of the division already- not to mention if Cam can be a NFL QB.

same here.

5-7 wins is about it, and i'm actually fine with that as long as the team is improving from week to week.

a team going through the changes that this one is, esp. following last year...expectations should be low.

If Cam Newton is turns out to be the next great QB, then I am saying Weinke for Panther HOF. :cam:

For all the jokes to be made about his playing career, Weinke was the type of player that tends to transition well into coaching.

As to Newton, like others, I don't want him being rushed into starting (always prefer the long term approach) but it's good to hear the positives.

sounds to me as if your pointing out all the negatives about "our" team. im rooting for them and im being realistic as well. Otah has been very solid when playing, very... if TD give us 16 games hell even 14 he will be a pro-bowler. deangelo i would love to have hime back but Goodson is more than ready to be a change of pace. we dont know what we have in Gettis and LaFell because our QB situation was so bad last seaon. i think your being a little negative... and out of all our questions i dont question Cam at all i believe in winners and that what Cam been klnown to do... as far as being way behind i dont know about that... TB got issues they DL is young but everbody on the line got injury issues exceopt DT Price. and aqib talib may not be there Ronde is old. ATL they defense was a fluke last season Lofton is overrated and abraham may not survive the season healthy. and i aint afraid of the saints either... no team in our division is down right dominate we just have a very competitive division and i think we can compete too...

I expect us to be picking in the top 5 next draft.

As Rayzor said that's fine with me as long as we see improvement and see what Cam can do.

see that kinda talk right there is what the lions browns bills and bengals organizations way of thinking. i been a Carolina fan since 93(when whispers of the team was coming and the establishment began) and i dont celebrate moral victories. if we dont compete im not cool with that. now i dont know about the Lombarbi next season but i definitly think we can win or atleast finish around .500

This would be a lot easier to read in paragraphs.

I'm optimistic, but cautiously.

We don't know what TD will be able to do after two knee surgeries.

Otah looks injury prone and doesn't spend enough time on the field.

Goodson is good, but DLo is elite. Goodson also seems to have a bit of a problem holding onto the ball.

Cam is a green rookie who hasn't shown anything or proven anything at this level. A lot of guys win in college and flop in the pro's. I'm not trying to predict what Cam will do, but I'm not going to tie myself to blind optimism because he won in community college and one year at Auburn. Chris Weinke won the Heisman and a National Championship too.

I'm taking a hopefully, yet "wait and see" approach to this season.

There are far too many hypotheticals for me to be comfortable.
