New 2012 NFL Mock Draft

FDN

If there isn't football, and we're all in the same order again, the Panthers either take Luck and let him and Newton fight it out, or they make a historical trade for someone's entire draft. What they won't do is pick someone else first.

Yeah, I agree. In the analysis I said they would trade out of that pick, but we didn't do any trades for simplicity.

Hightower is a good pick for San Diego, I wish they would've addressed it better in this last draft, but if everyone comes back (including Butler, who was on IR last year), it may not matter.

As far as CB's go, I'm not sure we're gonna go in that direction. We took Gilchrist and Wright with the hopes that they'll be part of the CB rotation with Jammer and Cason. They stay on the right track and I won't see it being a need. But if an Amukamara type falls to us - we may bite, even though we didn't on Amukamara himself.

Tackle is something to keep an eye on. After Kaeding, Clary's probably the least liked Charger by the fans, so we won't shed a tear if he leaves. Regardless, if him or Dombrowski are a mess on the right side, then it may get addressed.

Don't forget about WR, especially if VJ leaves. Given AJ's history to making big moves to get players he wants (Weddle, Mathews), I wouldn't put it past him to trade into the Top 10 for Jeffery or Blackmon.

Nice post! That's what I'm thinking about the CBs, they might be a BPA type pick if someone falls. Tackle makes a lot of sense, but the Chargers have yet to take a tackle in the first round since AJ Smith took over. I agree that it is a need though

if luck is in the draft and we have the #1 pick (won't be happening, btw), then that pick is going to be a very hot commodity. atlanta isn't all that dumb of a franchise in recent years, but still they were foolish enough to give up their first three picks for 2 years for a WR. someone is going to make that look like chump change.

luck would be the first pick, but the end result for the panthers will be at the very minimum what the browns got from the falcons. i wouldn't be surprised to see someone give up their first 3 picks for 3 years for him.

all that said....we won't be taking a DE with our first pick. picks like this are made by people who don't have a clue what's going on in carolina. didn't bother to read the rest of the mock. first pick set the tone, imo.

There will be a season and we will have a top 10 pick but it won't be the 1st pick.

IF there's a season and we do NOT have Steve Smith and dont replace him with a WR, i very well could see them getting the number one overall pick. Gettis and LaFell arent as good as people want them to be, with Smith here, they are ok, without him, the offense is below average.

lots of people from Bama's defense going in the first round

Their entire back eight (3-4) are #1s at their position, except for the 2 LBs that are #2 because the other 2 LBs are #1. At least according to nfldraftscout.com (link). A lot can happen to a prospect's ranking in their final year of college, but still. Unfortunately, no Cody's or Dareus's from them next year.

There isn't a WR worthy of the #1 pick. You could trade out of that position and get a kings ransom and still get the best WR in the class.

Gettis and LaFell are going to be good to great WRs. Please explain why they are below average?

ok, example, look at the Bears game, that was Clausen's worst game and i know you blame Clausen, but the fact is a great reciever can do anything to make the QB look better. i do NOT know what YOU see in LaFell and Gettis that makes YOU think these two guys can replace Steve Smith BY themselves because i think they cant. Without Smith and without a number one reciever (like Sims-Walker or any free agent WR who could be the number one guy) i see this team being awful on offense. LaFell and Gettis are decent 2nd options, personally i like Jordan Shipley much better than i liked LaFell, but anyways, LaFell and Gettis are more like 2nd or 3rd recievers, not go to guys and without the top guy, teams wont fear the panthers passing game. As for there isnt a WR worthy of the top pick, who do you take??? DE??? we HAVE that. QB???? that's VERY risky after getting Newton, it may be a risk going WR at the top pick, but if you dont have a replacement for Smith besides LaFell and Gettis you NEED to look into these recievers, i like Alshon Jeffery, he's got future stud wrote all over him, i like Justin Blackmon, both are going to be really great, just like AJ Green, now if Julio Jones was the guy i say pass, but in my book Green, Jeffery and Blackmon will be stars and i think Blackmon and Jeffery need looks as the top pick unless you have a DT on the board.

Excellent point, in fact if I included trades in this mock I probably would have had the Panthers trade down and take Justin Blackmon

yeah. if they do trade down and get a WR that would be great, but if they have the top pick, for some reason i see them keeping it and going either WR or maybe getting Luck which would be a mistake, but i see it being WR and in my book (if we get the top pick) we should use it on a WR because most likely if they have the top pick it will be again the offense having issues.
