Lost one of the pups

One of the dogs I have rescued died today. Little Sammy. He was a black, lab looking pup.

Yesterday I moved the dogs from their filthy kennel (from the people who abandoned them) to a larger fenced in area in my yard. When I moved them, thought the pups would follow their mother, but the runt, Buster, did not. Did not find him till today. He was hiding in the woods.

Today found Sammy isolating. He was lethargic and dehydrated. Brought him inside, got some fluids in him, but too late. I think he likely died of parasites (lots of rectal blood when he died). The poop in the kennel did not look good, and there was some bloody poop...did not know before, but must have been Sammy's. I hope Sammy understood that someone loved him before he died.

I buried him at the edge of the woods under a tree beside my dog Molly. RIP Sammy.

I don't understand why people want animals if they're not going to take care of them. Utter incompetence. Then again, if you evaluate our society and see all poorly brought up humans around us, it sort of explains it.

The truth is all around us.

whether you've known them for a day or a decade, it's always tough for a rescuer to say goodbye. i'm certain that sammy knew the difference in care that he received, even if for a very short time. just keep doing what you're doing - that's the best way to honor sammy and all other rescued friends that have passed.

With bloody poo, are you sure it's not parvo? Especially with the dehydration, lethargy, etc.

Not sure about anything. But, I never say any signs that he had thrown up. The pups did look wormy.

Of the other pups...3 look good...have good energy. The runt is eating, but is quiet. I have him inside because he is small enough to get out of the fence if he were with the others....and he has already run and hid in the woods once. Wondering if the other pups picked on him.

Hope these images show up, not very tech advanced when encrypting photos. But this is my pup had him for about a year, he's a little jack russell terrier named tidus. The kid in the pics is my fiance's little brother...but trying to bring the mood up in this thread always sad for pups and kittens to die.

Yeah, they don't really throw up with parvo. It's more bloody stools, dehydration, and lethargy. You might want to quarantine ASAP and bleach everything- walls, floors, etc. That poo lives forever and a day.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this. We have 3 sets of kittens right now we're trying to find homes for. It's hard. All because my dumbass neighbor wouldn't get his cat fixed. He even quit feeding her, so now my mom has taken over that. She has kittens all over the place, too.
