Has anyone forgotten about T.I.?

But this is the problem with that: Waka Flocka has said time and time again that he doesn't want to be a lyricist. He doesn't want to be like Nas, or Lupe or Common as far as content. So, people hold artists like Waka Flocka to the standard of other rappers who they don't even want to be like. Waka Flocka wants to produce club bangers and that's what he does. Go to any club in Charlotte and you'll hear Flocka playing, like it or not. When Nas was popular, how often was "One Mic" being played in the clubs? Never. Not all artists can be held to the same light because they don't all aspire to be political or motivational. Some of them literally just want people to shake their asses.

Seriously, not everyone wants to be like Mos Def, Common, Nas, etc.

I haven't read much of Waka.. so simply replace him with Kanye (post Heartbreak, even though some didn't like that album.. I don't give a fug), or Weezy, or hell, even Drake..

damn.. you know what, some of Drake's poo has fell off hard considering how big he exploded on the scene.. his mix tape and his 1st cd are worlds apart.. (granted I didn't listen as extensively as I feel I should have to "Thank Me Later", but he's done enough since then for me to form this conclusion)

half of the time it sounds like he's trying to be Weezy, and even Kanye started doin this poo where it's just random sentences put together and pawning it off as hot lyrics.. fug that. that's not top of the game material. it's putting out poo because people are going to buy it anyhow based on who you are.

now I love Kanye, but damn he needs to get back to his College Dropout days and fast.. he's putting out great beats, but the lyrics are pooty..

and other than J Cole and Lupe, (Saigon too, B.O.B.) it's hard to name anyone in the mainstream that's holding down some Nas-like lyrics that you have pointed out.

and when I think of hip-hop, I like you named those who I always think of.. Common, Mos Def, Nas, throw in Kweli.. etc..

not really anyone is putting out hip-hop these days.. they are just rapping.

and Mos Def needs to put a cd out... WTF.

edit: nvm, I didn't realize he's put 2 out since True Magic.. let me get on that. where the fug have I been?

Just listen to what you like. I don't really listen to music for a deep message. I listen to music to relax.

I find rap to have the most meaningful lyrics (to me) when it comes to real messages, but that isn't a "must have" in the rap I listen to.

true enough

I don't really have a specific genre; I like all music. I just happen to resent how annoying the new "rap" is.

I really have no room to talk though. I listen to some bands/artists that most(probably all) of you would laugh at if you heard them lol.

I listen to it all.. I don't need a message all the time, and most of the time I'm not looking for anything heavy..

however, that's not exactly what I'm talking about.. it doesn't have to be heavy to have a message, or just a LITTLE substance.. at least form coherent sentences is all I'm saying..

I find Immortal Technique to be too much majority of the time.. however, Lupe put out good lyrical content and mixed it up. some heavy, some not so much.. but all of his poo was at least coherent. Same goes for J Cole..

if J Cole keeps growing as a lyricist and artist, Jay-Z better watch out.. Jay isn't the Jordan of the rap game that's so far ahead no one can catch him.

if you're new to Shad you should really check out his other stuff. he's one of my favorites and the two songs I posted(Rock to it, I get Down) are both pretty old songs, and he's released two albums since then.

    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
