Has anyone forgotten about T.I.?

I don't get the argument that mainstream has to be worse than underground. There are some mainstream artists that no underground artist can touch. And there are plenty of "underground" acts that 1. don't want to be regarded as underground (see: OFWGKTA) and 2. are way worse than most mainstream artists.

its the state of who buys the cd's that make mainstream artists mainstream.

Just because the masses like bubble gum rap and like to hear about meaningless shiit doesn't mean the music is good.

Mainstream was good in the 90's when rap and hip hop wasn't all about cars and bitches with big asses(eventhough I like bitches with big asses)

Now I am just saying in my opinion the state of mainstream hip hop and rap is bad. Not saying all of the artists are also.

Lupe isn't underground but he's definitely not the same style as mainstream. He raps about real poo and does it intelligently instead of just "GETTIN HIGH GETTIN MONEY GETTIN HOES YEEEEEEEA MAYNE". He's probably my favorite "well known" artist.

One that many don't know(well, I'm pretty sure he's big in Canada) is Shad. One of my favorite artists out there.

I feel like it has to do with the top artists and what they contribute artistically to the genre other than hot beats and a few clever lyrics which have no true message other than "I’m about to go HAM" or listen to pretty much all of Waka Flocka's lyrics to come away hearing absolute garbage.

Granted, I love do it with no hands, but come on.. party/club music's only contribution is to get you on the dance floor. MAJORITY of it's popularity is pushed by the beat alone.. and the sole reason no one can argue the state of hip-hop is dead on the mainstream level.

even Jay-z is getting old as poo.. talk about something other than how great you are and everyone is looking up to you.. Also, if you're better than BIG, let the masses speak it and STFU.. Seriously.

Seems to me the only difference between mainstream rap and The Huddle is we're (I'm) broke and they're rich. We talk about the same stuff they rap about.

considering music in past decades have offered some sort of artistic contribution to their music, then this is just a horrible way to excuse the degradation of today's music.

I don't think casual conversation and artistic brilliance can be shed in the same light, and if today's music can be compared similarly than that just goes to show artistic brilliance is not what it used to be..

unless of course you consider artistic brilliance to talk about money, cash, hoes.. I do not.. even though I still enjoy the music, but not for the same reasons..

oh, and for the record, (IMO) Hip-Hop kills all other genre's in the lyrics category. However, when there is no message, I don't exactly go around bragging about the lyrical content unless I feel like talking to someone who can relate to the wording without getting to deep into the meaning. I can enjoy clever lyrics, but without substance, it's not everything it could be.

oh and for the record it's not just mainstream rap that sucks, most mainstream music period sucks. I'm a huge classic rock fan, and it pisses me off so much to flip to a rock station and here fuging pop crap called rock. There is only ONE station around here that I can tolerate, and it's because it plays primarily 60's-80's music.

Seriously if I hear another Drake/Wiz Khalifa/Katy Perry/etc song I'm going to smash my stereo.

But this is the problem with that: Waka Flocka has said time and time again that he doesn't want to be a lyricist. He doesn't want to be like Nas, or Lupe or Common as far as content. So, people hold artists like Waka Flocka to the standard of other rappers who they don't even want to be like. Waka Flocka wants to produce club bangers and that's what he does. Go to any club in Charlotte and you'll hear Flocka playing, like it or not. When Nas was popular, how often was "One Mic" being played in the clubs? Never. Not all artists can be held to the same light because they don't all aspire to be political or motivational. Some of them literally just want people to shake their asses.

Seriously, not everyone wants to be like Mos Def, Common, Nas, etc.

    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
