When is the last time a superstar....

I don't think he can be that kind of player.

He is too far into his career to make that kind of change and be productive.

IMO.

I would normally agree with that for most players....however, Pep does have the physical ability to make any change needed on the field.

There are probably not 3 other players with the ability of Pep in the NFL.

IMO, he could play TE, DE, OLB, ILB, and possibly some SS. He really is "the freak" of the NFL.

I agree, but I don't know about SS. He's fast enough for it though at 4.5

That's another possibility, but IMO he lost that in the off season. It should go to either Beason or Harris. So he could have stayed here and got that accomplished.

To expand what I meant is I don't believe he wants to be a leader. He went south in 07 when Jerry told him he needed to step up into a leadership role. He had no choice but turn it on last year to get paid. I believe he wants to go somewhere that he's not the "face" of the franchise.

I agree with Kurb and you that he would have a hard time doing that, but I believe he thought he would have an easier time doing that in a larger market out of the shadow of his home state.

I am not really confused, just wondering if there has ever been a superstar doing what Pep is doing.

P.S. I am totally in the group that thinks that Pep just wants to be turned loose, much like LT, and solely go after the QB. He could make that HOF if in the right system, and I think thats what he is looking for.

What has been holding him Back? As a DE you rush the passer every play and more then a LB in the 3-4. I dont get it there has been no one holding him back and why would they?

I agree that's likely his thinking. The thing is that even if he isn't the FACE of the franchise and he's out of his home state, he may not realize that the media here is far, far far less demanding or hounding in Charlotte/the Carolinas than it would likely be in a place like Dallas. And that, I am pretty sure he would HATE. I never heard him talk so much to the press as he did this past year in all his other years combined with the team.

Part of the reason why I think he thinks he'd like Dallas. Plenty of stars, less pressure (at least in Peppers' mind; reality may be another story).

That said, looks like Dallas may just land Ray Lewis. I sincerely doubt they can swing acquiring both Lewis and Peppers. And if its given that you could only pursue one of the two, I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find someone who'd choose Julius.

Ain't no deal getting done. He's gonna have to play here for 16+ million in 2009. No team that matters to him can afford the price and most of the NFC is off limits because of competition concerns for Carolina. I think Julius overplayed his hand. As far as the HOF talk, you have got to be kidding me. He is an awesome player, but he needs at least 5 more years of all-star stats to be in that rare air. One more year of 2007 stats and he's an also ran. Now is the time he will be truly measured as a team player. Lets see what happens.

Peppers is a quiet and shy type of player. If he doesn't want to be a captain, why force him into that position? You can't just pick anybody and give them the captain title. It doesn't work that way. A team has to gravitate towards a vocal leader who naturally steps up and gives a huddle speech or who everyone rallies behind when games are in crucial situations. Basically, someone who's not a quitter.
