I dont know if this has been talked about yet since i don't know how to search it but do you guys think Carolina will restructure Delhomme's contract to open up some cap space for Peppers in case he doesn't get traded?? And if they do, do you think Delhomme will take a paycut to stay in Carolina??

I can't see Jake being asked to take a paycut, that would be an admitting lack of performance/confidence. it's more likely they sign him to a long term backloaded deal knowing he probably won't play it out.

Remember you have to take into fact the 30% rule on contracts now because of the uncapped year. So his contract extension couldn't be too back loaded. They can't really restructure either since he's in the last year of his deal. He would have to be extended.

I dont think they will restructure his contract at all, they'll let him do his thing this yr. and if he shows no improvement or they dont have a decent backup he'll be gone the next season.

I'm not sure they have much choice he has a 5.3 million cap number, it's pretty much extend or cut and he's not getting cut.

Let me rephrase, relatively backloaded.

They will probably extend Jake by three years.

For all of those who want Jake cut and replaced, who are you going to replace him with?

A rookie? Who has never taken a snap in the NFL. You do realize that most rookies struggle for several years starting out. ryan was an exception to the rule. And Flacco did not play that well...he just had a defense that was pure nastiness.

Someone like Brady Quinn, or Anderson, etc... The "hot " name of a back-up. Someone who has never proven anythign as well.

Jake is not a spring chicken and the Panthers do need to start grooming someone to be his replacement. However, he should and will start for the next few seasons.

Stop trying to interject logic into the discussion. You know that one bad playoff game totally overshadows everything else. Same as Manning in New York.

    • It amuses me how Goff's name the last few years is often used to compare to subpar or underperforming QB's. Now on the surface I get it. But when you look at his numbers he's been the same QB all along. He's improved his completion % but even with the Rams he averaged 63.4. And that Super Bowl he played in they should have won honestly. If we can get a QB as good as Goff I'll be pretty damn pleased.
    • And it remains to be seen if Goff has that ability or not. Plenty of very good QB's like Goff were not able to get over those playoff humps. Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, etc. You can still be an upper tier QB and never get over that hurdle. McVay just thought(and hasn't been wrong yet) Goff was never going to be that guy.
    • You literally simply have to think logically for either of those guys. Smith is locked up on a deal for 2025, so we would have to trade for him or he gets cut. Neither of those scenarios are likely in the first place.  Wilson will be 37 in 2025. Why on earth would he have any interest in a situation that is far worse than he was given in Denver and wasn't able to win there? He's a guy that can drop into any ready to win franchise in the NFL and immediately elevate their chances of winning(provided they already have QB issues).  Frankly, that is either speculation that even David Newton should be embarrassed by or it shows how disconnected with reality some people in our organization are.   I do agree with him on getting a veteran QB, however. That's our best chance to keep developing our talent.
