comparing Cam to josh Freemon

Physically they have some similarities. College skill sets coming out? Freeman seemed to be in pretty good shape, but there were some serious concerns about his ability to quickly read an NFL defense because of the fact he struggled reading some college schemes of some of the better Big 12 teams. He had some accuracy issues... He also had other questions but IMO he was still a pretty good prospect.

Freeman was coming out of a modified pro offense that utilized a lot of spread formations. In his last two seasons of play he combined for a 60% completion percentage, some 6.2k yards, 38 passing TDs, and over 7 YPA. In his final year at K-State, despite his apparent protests about it, his coach had him run quite a bit, where he racked up 400 yards and 14 TDs.

I don't really see the point in comparing the two. Other than physical comparisons and potential similarities in possible pro style play, I don't think they did much of anything the same in college.

One of Freeman's strength's is his work ethic and desire to be the best he can be. If that same attitude is shared by Newton and early reports are he does, then it may portend good things for Newton as well. Every NFL QB has to be talented or they don't make this far, but what seems to separate those that succeed versus those that fail is a desire to be the best and a willingness to do whatever it takes to acheive that goal. I surely hope that Newton demonstrates that attitude as well.

Josh who? What accolades does he have behind his name?? Oh ok.

Well for one, his record...

2009 NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-13 QB Freeman

2010 NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10-6 QB Freeman

Now then, we are a better team than the Bucs were...so, Cam's mythology will only grow....

if he has a decent rookie season/

Fwiw, Freeman looks like a solid NFL QB at this point. Cam Newton is still a guy who played well in college. Remains to be seen if he can do it at the pro level. I certainly hope he can. If Newton looks as good in two years as Freeman does, then I will be happy.

But yes, imo there are a lot of similarities in their style in that they are both big strong players who can shrug off or outrun defenders.

Freeman has 'deceptive speed'... He's faster than he looks, but Cam is quite a bit faster than him still. Excited to see if Cam can translate into the pro game well. I just really hope he learns to protect his body.

Otherwise I hope we keep Matt Moore, since I expect Newton will miss a couple games a year due to injury :(

Agreed, only run when he needs to. Like Roethlisberger, or otherwise he's gonna have a lot of concussions like Rodgers.
