I think the michael vick situation was what change Richardsons mind

Vick changed the whole league's perspective on the QB position. Most people didn't think a mobile QB could win in the NFL because they couldn't become a pocket passer.

I have always thought that the Panther's filter was a cop out. We have had plenty of players over the years with character issues that have stayed on the team. One of the worst ones is still on the team and is the face of our franchise (Smitty). I think JR has chosen to not take players with character issues because he didn't think that they would succeed in the NFL - not because he had issues with a checkered past. Big difference.

Vick has been a somewhat model citizen for a year. He had that episode with his house party that almost blew up in his face. Let's give him a couple more years before we say he is a model citizen. He isn't allowed to receive any more than $300k a year until he pays back all of his prior debt from the bankruptcy. Once he starts getting millions again will be the time he slips if he ever does. I hope he continues on the right track.

I honestly wonder if many of the posters on this board are football fans.

Why the fug do you think that Vick would have had a good season here? He is playing in the most QB friendly team in the NFL.

Had he come to Carolina with Davidson calling the plays, and Foxy doing whatever he did, it would have been a disaster.

We missed on Vick....yea. Vick better thank his lucky stars that he ended up in Philly. Andy Reid has made McNabb a poo ton of money, and now Kolb and Vick are drinking from the same fountain, and none of them are really good QB's.

It's Vick's ability to make plays after the play breaks down that makes him so good. He didn't have a problem kicking our ass when he played for the falcons either. Reid is a good coach, but why does Kolb look mediocre and Vick look so good on the field? If anything he should thank McNabb for showing him how to approach the QB position.

It does not matter how fast he can run, how big his arm is, or how he can extend plays. He would not have had success here like he is having in Philly.

And as for Kolb looking mediocre...why is someone giving up a 1st round pick for an OK looking QB? They are both average QB's, as well as McNabb.

And P.S. I can assure you that it was the coaching staff, not McNabb that helped Mike Vick try to be a Pro.

I agree with this. Philly molded a offense around his ability. Adding some spread elements to spread out the d.

Saying that...... he made some bad choices but he seems to be a good man now. Lord knows before I was saved I made some bad choices that I am ashamed of today. But the past is the past and I really do believe people can change who they are.

Who's giving up a 1st for Kolb? link please

and FFS signing Shockey and drafting Newton doesn't mean they've changed their philosophy on signing "trouble makers". Vick was a fuging dog killer and served time and was never as good as he was last year in his entire career. It's fuging hilarious that people think he would have come close to how good he was last year under Fox, Scherer, and Davidson lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Newton has his problems but it's nothing comparable to what Vick did.

Andy Reid made Vick great just like he made Feeley and Kolb great

Lol. Passing on Vick was a mistake, but the front office has bounced back from that blunder

Vick won't play 16 games next season. Vick is a band aid at this stage in his career.

Carolina is looking for a future franchise QB. That eliminated Vick and wisely so.

i'll first say that until vick shows that he's fallen back into his old dumb mistakes...i've got to go with him being reformed and grown up. i'm not going to hold his past against him. the fact that dungy believes that makes it even easier for me to believe it.

i don't think, however, that passing on vick was a mistake. it wouldn't have worked out well. fox/davidson wouldn't have used him well at all. we might have had a couple more wins...but he would have been wasted here and we wouldn't have been in position to get newton (anyone thinking he would have lasted past the first 5 is crazy). considering how short the remainder of his career maybe and the potential that cam has to be every bit the running QB that vick is (different styles, but still a threat with the ball in his hands) and the passing QB that vick never was, i think we came out better in the long run for sure.

until he got out of prison, vick never had his head on straight and until he got to philly with mcnabb, he never really had all that great of a work ethic or a desire to learn how to play the position. mentally, newton is about where vick is now as far as playing the position. newton has the discipline and work ethic that vick needed and should have had early on that would have made him one of the all time greats. he's also got a whole lot more as far as character and leadership is concerned than vick ever had prior to going to philly.

people may or may not regret getting vick, but imo, we got something much better with newton.

did you not watch the 2nd half of the season when teams adjusted to him in a new offense w/ different weapons? Same ole Vick.....his wheels just ain't as good and he knows it.

Early in the season teams just didn't know what to do w/ him in new surroundings.....no pressure and wide open WRs. Jimmy Clausen could play if teams allowed that to occur.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
