Well I'm talking with experience, I attended two games last year. The Niners and cardinals game. People in the stands were crucifying Moore and Clausen. Berry other word I hard was that of a fan that was being harsh. All I'm saying is that this fan base is quick to give up. QBs need at least two years. Look at freeman. If the buccs gave up on him the first season, and drafted another QB where would they be? I realize that its hard to determine where they would be but I'm willing to say they'd still be searching for that franchise QB. If newton fails and we draft yet another QB I'm calling for Hurneys head..

We picked Clausen because he fell so far, and he was a great value. I doubt we ever really scouted him that hard. Once we got him into camp, it turns out they didn't like him as the guy. The front office has hitched their wagon to Newton's star. They scouted him thoroughly and did their homework. If he fails, they're gone.

The fans weren't hard on Moore or Clausen. The front office was. They have given up on those two and moved on. Probably for good reason as they know them better than any of us could.

Moore was booed off the field in WEEK 2 at halftime down only 7 points coming off a concussion.

I don't recall Moore being booed off.

I do recall Fox basically ending the season in week 2 foolishly.

if they hadn't played like crap or shown signs of improving...they would have gotten a better chance. if newton shows no signs of growth in his first year of starting, he'll get the same and more hate.

Two years ago the Moore bandwagon was at all ahead full. He had a decent win/lose record, (6-2 at one point) and most people wanted Jake gone. So we let Jake go and handed the team to Moore, and Moore pretty much tanked. Some of which was his fault, and some of the responsibility has to go to the Oline which didn't seem to want to protect him at all.

I say that because nothing in football is a given, you have to want to take it. I am not sure Moore wanted to take it as much as Cam seems to want to. From almost everything I have read or heard, Cam is looking forward to the challenge, not shrinking from it.

So this whole thread would be moot, because, if Moore would have come through I am not sure we would have even drafted Cam. And I do believe that the only people talking about Clausen would be Notre Dame grads.

a couple rowdy fans imo isn't being "booed off" a field. Alex Smith got booed off a field last season with the "we want Carr chants". Everyone in the stadium and on the field knew Alex Smith got the univeral thumbs down.

I could hear it on TV since I wasn't there, so I'm pretty sure it was more than just a few "rowdy fans"

I was there as well. It wasn't Moore specifically but the offense as a whole. It wouldn't have mattered who was at Qb, when you play so poorly across the board and score so few points, there was very little to cheer about. It happened with Moore and Clausen. If we are awful this year it will happen again whether it is Moore, Clausen, or Newton or a vet to be named. Fans expect a better performance and frankly they pay enough to expect it.

Agreed to an extent. The guy said the fans weren't hard on Moore and that's just not accurate. We were in a winnable game and got booed off the field. I believe we just scored a late touchdown in the half as well.

actually the fans were hard on them. people quit on him in a year, that's being hard on him, in a years time if Newton looks bad on the field will these same fans do the same or give an excuse???? i better NOT read excuse after excuse in a year's time, if he's good then i will be happy, if he's bad then i will be angry and wonder if he's going to be quit on too.

Actually I really like all the guys we have at WR. I think LaFell and Gettis will both be main targets for us eventually. Pilares seems like an all around solid player. I'm really eager to see what AE can bring to the table. He is so quick and fast, if he could hone his skills as a WR he could be a very dangerous player.

i do NOT like all the guys they have at WR. if the panthers are seriously thinking in their minds about letting Smith go and moving on with Edwards, LaFell, Gettis and Pilares and miss the playoffs then they deserve it. Honestly, LaFell and Gettis are improving, BUT are not great number 2 recievers yet and they are FAR from being number one recievers. Edwards, so far, so awful. he's worse than Clausen so far and Pilares is a rookie and not much rookie WRs make instant impacts. in my book you keep Smith or at least get a guy to replace him like a Sidney Rice, Santana Moss or even a Malcolm Floyd.

Everyone, bad news. Smitty is gone. Its a fact. There are people close to him, advisors and whatnot, who have confirmed this. I wish, personally, that it wasn't true. But it is, and we just need to get used to it. So, the questions is, what do we do. This year, the only hope is that we get a vet WR in FA, along with a QB that could help Cam develop. The problem is that the lockout is preventing all of this from happening, and the driving force, or at least one of the main ones, is JR. JR is not going to pay for FAs to the level that we will need to fill these holes. I believe that things are not going to get too much better next year because of all of this...

This operates on a flawed assumption, in my opinion. 89 with take snaps with Carolina next season once he gets in camp or informal workouts and is able to rap with Cam a bit and see what he's able to do out there. Steve doesn't run from challenges. He never has. His frustration last year was a product of what makes him great.... his competitive fire and desire to never lose.
