Cam Newton trains with IMG Madden Football QB gurus

He trained on campus to prepare for his Auburn pro day, now Cam Newton is back at the IMG Madden Football Academy to prepare for his (depending on the NFL lockout) rookie season.

Newton is currently working with IMG Madden Director, Chris Weinke, who won the Heisman Trophy then was drafted by the Carolina Panthers just as Newton, and staff coach Ken Dorsey.

So for the people that were scared for Newton to be working out with Favre because they didn't want him picking up Favre's "horrible habits," how do you feel about him working out with Chris Weinke and Ken Dorsey? Neither of which could sustain a NFL career?

He just got drafted No. 1, he left New York City; flew to Charlotte; went from Charlotte, home to Atlanta; changed bags, took his mom to church service, got a chance to hang home for 48 hours,” Whitfield said. “And now, he’s right back at IMG working.”

My favorite part

I didn't like the idea of Favre because Favre seems to be an egotistical headcase... I don't get that from Weinke or Dorsey... some people are better teachers than they are practitioners.

Both of these guys can tell Cam about NFL plays, team life, leadership, etc., stuff that he will need to be a successful NFL QB.

Those who can't, teach.

How can Weinke and Dorsey tell Cam how to be a successful QB when they've never been there? What proof does anyone have that Favre isn't a great teacher? Just because he chose not to be a father figure mentor to Aaron Rogers everyone has written him off as a jackass "non-teacher."

Re-read my post and tell me where I said anything that definitive. All I gave you was my opinion that I have no problem with those two, and that I feel like Favre's general attitude would not be beneficial to Cam.

Favre might be a great teacher, who knows... you don't either. He may be a complete ass and teach Cam lots of bad habits... I'd rather not take the chance.

the more tutors he has, the better. sure, there will be some bad advice, but he's got enough people around him to help him discern the good from the bad. overall, it's just going to help him achieve things quicker.

at any rate, dude looks like he's taking this thing seriously, just like he's supposed to.

You are right, I have no idea if Favre would be a better teacher or not, but minus the dong pics, I think I would rather have someone with his resume tutoring Cam Newton than two guys that have no idea what it takes to win at the NFL level. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

Having knowledge of what is required and actually being able to apply it are to completely different things. You do realize that almost EVERY coach of anything at any level was not a star at their particular sport. There are a few exceptions, but as a whole this is the case. Also historically the best players make horrible coaches, usually.

God knows our QBs need all the advice they can get.

Once the season starts, if we don't have a veteran, who is he gonna get it from then?

Clausen?

MattyMo? Who was taking direction from Jakey? (love you jake)

Tony Pike?

:smilielol5:

Perhaps Brian St. Pierre would be over Pike in the adviser ranks.

What about Isiah Thomas?
