Top Ten Panther Plays: 2008 Season

So SorthNarolina's thread got me thinking about the top ten panther plays this season, whether offensively, defensively, or from special teams. Compile your list and we'll compare.

Here's my list with #1 being the best play:

10. Deangelo runs through the raiders: In a game where points were at a premium and our QB was in the giving spirt, Deangelo put us over the hump with a dash up the middle that ended 50+ yards later in the endzone. May be one of his best runs all year. This run showcased his speed that we would see over and over again during the 2nd half of the season.

9. Kemo's drops the edge: Forced fumble against Arizona that immediately changed the whole tone of the team and the game. Kemo blew the middle up and then dropped edge to the ground while forcing the fumble. Great play by a guy who gets little acknowledgement for how good he does his job.

8. Moose's long TD catch against KC: I'm sure some may have forgotten about this play as we went onto destroy KC but this catch and run showed me that the old man's still got it. He took a slant across the middle and outran the chief's rookie corner Flowers. Memorable play from a not so memorable game.

7. Deangelo's cutback against Denver: Deangelo's highest mention at number 6....BOOOOO!!! Great vision and a great run. Really showcased his ability to cutback and make a play. He was playing lights out during this time period and I really thought that this run would show the league that he was deserving of a pro bowl spot.

6. Steve Smith's tight rope against Arizona: Outside of the tampa game this year, this game was one of the best games I have ever witnessed live. We were down and out and then in a matter of 2-3 minutes the team came roaring back. Smitty's catch and run was unbelieveable. This one should probably be higher on my list.

5. Chirs Harris' 2nd forced fumble of the game against Chicago. Greg Olson is probably still getting ripped by chicago fans for this one but that was the game changer. Harris secured the tackle and popped out the ball for his 3rd forced fumble of the early season. Gamble was in the right spot once again. Starting 2-0 without Smith was great.

4. Stewart's stiff arm on Ronde Barber. WOW!!! I remember B.O.A. rocking after that run and the collective crowd going "oooohhh" when they replayed it. Was also the first game I heard the crowd collectively sing "Sweet Caroline" at the end of the game. A tradition I hope continues.

3. John Kasay's division clinching FG. The lone remaining original panther comes through again in the clutch to clinch our 2nd NFC South title in the final seconds of week 17. Great drive and a great kick for the win. One of the most exciting games of the year.

2. The Catch: Sorry Dwight Clark, Sorry tyree but when panther fans refer to the catch in our history it is symbolized with a high dart to an unknown tight end named Rosario Dawson. Tone setter for the season, the emotion after this play was unparralled. This catch could easily be number one on everyone's list and I want dispute it one bit.

1. Steve Smith's goal line catch at Green Bay that set up the game winning touchdown. Was an amazing play, in an amazing atmosphere and was even more special to me because I was there in person. Just an unbelieveable play that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Lets hear your gripes and complaints with my list as well as your list. If a thread like this has already been posted, I apologize, but I need a distraction from the Peppers trade stuff.

I think Patrick Surtain was covering him... that said.. he didn't JUST outrun whoever was covering him.. he outran the entire cheifs secondary. Not bad for an old man. Same thing almost happened with his catch against the Giants.. if he wasn't so dumbstruck it wasn't picked off.. he probably would have gotten to the endzone.

He only had 1 FF that game. The other Greg Olson fumble was by Thomas Davis. He'd probably have more fumbles on the year if some of the plays weren't blown dead so early.

I think this should be #1. It was THIS play that put us on the map. This play that showed we are for real and you should be AFRAID to play against us.

your absolutely right about harris' fumble. I remember him blowing up a pulling guard that game also which would make my honorable mention list...lol

Number 2 would have gone down in the books for a season opener had we won the superbowl this year. Jake working his 4th qtr magic.

I agree. Jake, the comeback kid and Dawson made my day. I was at a sports bar in Sierra Vista, AZ (in the army and was stationed at Ft. Huachuca) with a friend, who just happened to be a chargers fan. Our game was running late and I remember a broncos fan telling me to "let it go, it's not gonna happen". After that catch I ran though the bar yellin at everyone that was telling me to hang it up 10 secconds before, "What now huh? What!?". Number one play in my book!
